Fittment issues?

How can I make sure I don't get any fittment issues trying to replace the timing chain tensioner? What part should I use for a 95 MAXIMA who's rattling is driving me insane. The one from the write-up? (13091-31U26)

It's pretty easy. Take off the 4 bolts on black plate on the timing chain cover (closest to the firewall). The tensionner is right behind it. 2 bolts to take off (MAKE SURE you do not loose anything in the timing chain covers, stuff a cloth in there and be careful.

Then take the new tensionner and replace the old one, it's a b*tch, but doable. The rattle was also driving me crazy but now it's completely fixed, no need to change the guide.

what part did you use? the whole chain guide SLA kit (i got quoted 77 bucks plus taxes for it here) or did you just buy a tensioner if you just bought a new tensioner could you give me the part number? can you get it off nissanparts.com or do I have to go to the stealership anyways?

Dexter - you can't replace the guide without pulling the whole timing chain cover off... so you might just want to buy the tensioner.

matty had a thread all about this a few days ago...
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=425326

Read that thread - he had some concerns about the updated tensioner not fitting through the plate opening...

i'm not interested in replacing the guide

about the tensioner which part does fit?

# 1307031U00 or # 1307031U01? and if it's neither can someone give me the right part number (and would I still have to go to the dealership to get it?)

I am not sure what the correct part number is. I would recommend getting it at the dealer. Call Dave Burnette - his number is posted in one of the Stickies either in the 4th Gen or 5th Gen forum. He should be able to guide you with the correct part number. You may also want to call Courtesy Nissan - they will definitely be able to get you the right part number and installation info.

I called Brimmel, no help, whoever picked up says he's never heard of anyone installing the tensioner through the side panel. Dealership has no idea whether it would fit through it or not. So i'm stumped. And in the thread there are mixed opinions on whether it fits through there or not. The write-up guy said he used that part, so I dunno what to do since no one (dealer/Brimmel) can give me a straight answer. Dealership told me they didn't know if it would fit through there or not (BASTARDS!) and told me that they'd fix it for me for 800 bucks (up theirz!!). If you haven't sensed it yet im really irritated because no one can seem to give me a straight answer whether it will fit or not, I think i'm just gonna order it 1307031U26 and try my luck, if it fits hooray and if it doesn't f*ck it!
