its wierd. i've notice a lot of post on starter issues. i have the exact same problem. my car gave me some problems with the starting one day. i had to rev it up on cold starts. then one day it wouldn't even turn. so i changed the starter and it still continues. the repair manual i got, states that its either a starter/solenoid, MAF, Temp sensor, or battery problem. i checked the ecu and i got the KS code. i have know idea whats going on, but seriously can anybody address this issue?

When one problem starts on the org, suddenly, 20 people are afflicted with it. KS, Seafoam, starter, funny idle, cv joints.....

Sorry to highjack this thread but my $20.00 donation for "instant" donating member status has yet to allow me to post my own threads or search.

I too am having starting issues on my 95 SE. Cleaned the TB, the IACV, rebuilt the starter, and battery is only a year old.

Extracted code 0407 from the ECU which indicates "Crankshaft Position Sensor (ref)" Does anyone have any idea where this sensor is and how to fix or replace it? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Max4life - Change your engine coolant temperature sensor.

High Altitude - Crank Position (REF) is located on the main pully. Turn your steering wheel full right and look behind the inner splash shield under the right front fender. You'll see the sensor looking at the pully.

What's it doing since you replaced the starter?

Ok, so I just removed the crank position sensor and called the part store. I was quoted $35.

Decided to clean it off and reinstall it hoping the dirt on the sensor was the cause of the loss of signal throwing the error code (0407). Started the engine and ran it for a couple minutes then stopped it (started fine by the way). Checked the ECU and got 0505, "no failure recorded or detected"

Is this a good assumption or should I just spend the $35 and replace the sensor?

Also, the guy at the part store ask if I needed the sensor on the front of the engine or the side. Are there two crank position sensors?

Thanks for everyones help.

since i replaced the starter, it continued the same problem. i still have to lightly rev the engine. i sometimes have to turn the key to start a few times. i think changing the starter had a band-aid effect. please help me. my CEL isn't on, but i performed the diagnosis anyway nad got 0304 (KS). i figuere it has nothing to do with it, but no MAF or temp sensor codes. what they hell is going on? only thing i've done that could have possible effect was i was tightening the bolt on the battery my wrench hit the positive side and it sparked. i quickly took it off and the car began with the problem. i have no battery problem still tho. wierd huh?

Had another hard start this morning on my 95 SE. Finally stayed running after the third time. Check the ECU right away when I got home but nothing showed up. Had the 0505 code. I've already done the following:

Cleaned TB and IACV
Replaced fuel and air filters
Rebuilt starter (new solenoid, brushes, bushings, etc..)
Battery is in good cond. (only 2 yrs. old)

I replaced the spark plugs a little over 60K ago with plantinum. Does anyone recommend replacing them again since they have so many miles AND do plugs have anything to do with hard starts?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
