normal sound?

I have a 97 auto se. I had the car up on a lift today running around 2000 rpm and heard a buzzing coming from the trans. I previously thought it was coming from the AC. Does mean trouble is on its way?

btw I have 110000 miles

I have only heard it before when idleing, with the window open. It is only really loud when I am next to a wall or something. But when my ear was close to it, it seemed pretty loud.

I would put money on a loose heat shield.

I had a similiar sound when my heat shield came loose. The sound was coming from a little further back...in the area of the back seat.

what heat shield are you talking about?

I put my ear next to the trans when it was on the lift. It was definately not coming from near my back seat.

My bad...must have read wrong. Sounded like you were getting it from the area of the shifter (center). If the tranny itself is buzzing it could be a number of things. I'd drain it first and check the fluid for particles. If you don't have an aftermarket magnetic plug, just drain the fluid and run a magnetic grabber around in it. If you don't find any then I'd start looking at things like clutch or bearings. Either way, something is most likely on its way out.
