Can't open my driver door.

I have a problem with my driver door lock. Right now I am unable to open the driver door. It began yesterday when I tried to close my door and it would not shut. It would stay latched like something was obstructive the latching mechanism. Like an idiot I forced it closed because I could not leave my door unlatched while I ate. So when i came out and used my remote to unlock the door, it would not unlock the door. I had to roll down the windows with the remote, reach in and physically unlock the drivers side door so that I could unlock the other doors.

I then tried to open the door and it would not open. I used the inner door handle as well as the outer door handle. Same result. I ended up having to crawl in through the passenger side. My question is what can I do to get the door open? I think that there is something wrong with the door lock on the drivers side, but i can't even get the door open to take it apart to check it out. Any ideas of how I can open the door? I don't want to take my car to the stealership.

Sounds like you've jammed the lock somehow - or something was bent and you've forced it shut... not good... Take it to a body shop - they probably deal with this sort of stuff all the time and can pop it open for a few bucks.

Well I went to a body shop and I could tell the guy was trying to ream me. He could not give me any kind of an estimate and he said it could take hours to get the door open. So I said the heck with that!! I am going to do it myself. I rolled down the window and looked down inside my door and from what I can tell the something has either broken or was bent when i closed the door and now the handles don't open the door.

I am going to find a schematic of the door and go from there. I will let you know how it turns out. I won't be able to work on it until this weekend though. oh well. Any tips sure would help.

If youve ever taken the door apart before you would know theres about 5-6 metal rods running inside it, which act as levers for the door handles. There is one that runs vertically from the outer handle and one horizontally from the inner handle. If you could somehw grab ahold of one of those from the window gap and move it to disengage you could be in buisness....

If you need to know where things run inside, take apart the passenger door and take a good look at it while youre trying to jimmie the drivers door.

I will give that a try. Better to try myself than to pay $ for a simple issue that i could have resolved.
