Clean throttle body or not

My idle is fine.. but when replacing my starter I noticed this:

As you can see seems to be alot of gunk after 240,000kms

But is it worth doing when you look inside and see all this, which I probably can't really clean properly I don't think.. a long tooth brush perhaps

That is one dirty throttle body. I just cleaned the TB on my max for the first time ever @ just over 120k miles and it wasnt THAT dirty. If I were you, i'll get up from my computer right now and clean it. You'll get smoother idles and better gas mileage.

My idle seems pretty steady at 600 idle/ 700rpm underload

How far up inside did you manage to clean?

I just did one at 118k, and it looked worse than that. my entire intake has a coating of black crap all over it. I just unbolted the tb and cleaned it that way, along with as far into the ntake as i could see. while youre at it, pull your iacv apart and clean it up.

Did you need to replace a gasket or anything when removing & reinstalling throttle body?

clean that. i try to do mine every other oil change. its an excuse to spend some time with the car.

sorry to jack the thread, but when i was doing the iacv, i remember the piece leading to the manifold had a thick thick layer of crap. i remember getting as much out as i could with a toothbrush, but would it be safe to spray tb cleaner inside there?

No, I didnt change either gasket, lthough im sure some people would say you should. both of mine were in great shape, so i just cleaned them up and re-used them.

If youre just using carb and choke cleaner, or something that evaporates, its safe to spray it in there. Be careful though when youre cleaning the intake, you dont want all that **** falling down into the motor.

If you do you will regain throttle response. Cleaned mine a while back and the car felt like when I first got it(used that is).

The best way to describe it is.....peppy. Before i cleaned it it had a split second lag from hitting the gas to the car responding, now its instantaneous. The only problem i have is when i first get in the car the throttle pedal sticks the first time i hit it. Im gonna go out there now and look at it, it might just be the cable, or maybe itll go away after a few weeks

I bought my car with 74k miles, I just hit 114k miles tonight. I cleaned my throttle body a few days ago for the first time, and I was kicking myself for not doing it earlier. it's worth it, get a can of gumout and go nuts.

I went to autozone and got a throttlebody cleaner. That's what it says on the can.

To truelly clean out your throttle body you should pull the whole manifold off. Reason being is b/c after 100k miles your going to have gunk in the throttle body, IACV, and where the EGR Guide Tube meets the intake manifold. That black gunk AKA "CARBON" is everywhere. After doing this though your car should have smooth idling and may even get a little roar at WOT.

SERIOUSLY my car roars now, its auto and chirps real easy .. idle is steady, so I'm not sure how much better it can get.. I remember reading somewhere that carbon deposits in highmileage engines can help increase engine compression .. probably the opposite for intakes

I think I might leave it til after I do the 5speed swap.. rather do that incase I have problems with the swap and think the TB is the cause

But Yes it needs a clean, I have a MEVI, mines a JDM car so it came from the factory with MEVI installed.. it has 240,000kms through it... how bad are they to pull apart?
