what the hell is wrong with my trunk!!!

So this whole week, i've been puttin stuff in my trunk (more than usual) and i began to realize that i cant open it if i put my key in the hole, that i've had to push the button on the door. Any body ever have this? and then.....if this is dumb, anybody know how i can do a search on for this site only?

there is a small metal bar, that connects your trunk lock to the actual latch.. id make sure it was still connected and hasnt fallen or broken off

Okay there should be a locking mechanism in the trunk, something is faulty with it, check to see taht everything is working properly when the trunk is open and that the key makes the trunk unlatched, otherwise just get a new car

Is the key for the ignition to the car and to open the door the same as the key to the trunk? Because I cant open my trunk with that key then. and I have no other. and I do have a remote though. but my question is about the key. anyone ??

goldtooth: the key should be the same one unless the previous owner replaced the trunk lock cylinder (or the ignition)...

wannaboostbad: sounds like it's time to get that key hole shaved anyways

You have the Vallet key, not the full featured key. The vallet key keeps the vallet driver, mechanic, and friend out of your trunk if you do not want them there (must disable the indoor push button).

If you guys can open it with everything but the key fob and the door there is a little mechanism that has a tab on it, change the position of the tab and that should fix that problem.

On google try "site:maxima.org" then whatever you want to search for. that should get it.

Ya because without the chip even the valet key won't start the car, so it's got to have one in it. If it's not a valet key then something is wrong with the trunk lock.
