MAF Screen

hey guys. i was cleaning up my engine today and decided to pop off my filter and clean it off. I peeked inside and saw that the screen that is on the end of the MAF is coated in black soit? (<-- spelling) I didnt clean it off but would this hurt? just to wipe it off?

Wipe it off but dont spray anything on that sensor...any kind of cleaner will fry it, some guys wipe it with water, I leave it alone
