What is the function of the black box located under the car in the rear of the driver side of the max? I have been hearing some high pitch noise coming from there. I am trying to pin point a hesitation issue...

 

Its part of the EVAP system

EVAP canister
Vent Conrtol Valve
Vaccum Cut Valve
Vacuum Cut Bypass Valve
EVAP Control System Pressure Sensor.

 

Is there something in this system that would cause hesitation? Is there something that I could clean to fix this problem?

Anything that malfunctions back there usually will throw a code..I had a problem a while back with the Vent Control Valve on the Canister..I took it off, one bolt I think, and cleaned it out...sometimes a spider will crawl up in there and make a web..

so how do you open up this black box?

 

with the magical key. or a small channel lock

 

No way to open it..its a sealed box
