When I was putting my engine mount bolts back on one of the bolts was apperently threaded wrong and snapped in the engine block. The car drives fine and the engine does not seem to move at all but I still don't like the idea of having 1/2 a bolt in my engine block very much. I talked to a few friends and one recommendeed that I just get a drill and drill into the the busted bolt and then reverse the drill? The concept works but I highly dow't my 2 3/4 HP drill is going to have enough power to reverse the bolt out, especialy when the bolt is TQ to about 60 lb's? I was also toled that if I drilled a "tap"? Into the bolt I could then get a wrench on the tap and reverse the bolt out? The next issue is that I probably stripped the threads in the engine block, so I guess I would have to maybe rethread the hole with the next biggest sized bolt? I am a bit confused about this proscess so if any one could shead some light on this issue I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

The usual repair for this kind of problem is to use a screw extractor. You drill a hole with a diameter to fit the extractor, gently hammmer the extractor into the hole, and then put a tap wrench on the extractor and unscrew the broken stub. You don't need a powerful drill to do this, but you do need a sharp drill bit and a steady hand. For best results use a split point hard drill bit such as carbide or titanium nitride. You can buy these tools at Sears or in a home improvement superstore such as Home Depot.

If you are in any way hesitant/unsure of yourself or if you feel you are drilling in a critical area, take it somewhere to have this done such as a machine shop. Drilling to big or too deep could ruin your day. Not trying to scare you but just warning you of possible mishaps. Been there, done that and bought the t-shirt.

Yeah thanks for the warning. If I decide to fix it I will just bring it to a Mechanic.

fixed

Get it fixed, it will prolly cost like 50 bucks. I didn't torque one the the plugs on my old car, a BERETTA, enough and blew one right out of the cylinder one day, SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH. My mechanic made me a heli-coil, he tapped the plug hole bigger and took a circle piece of aluminum and threaded it into the bigger hole and then cut that to the proper plug size, that's twice as much work as this is going to be and that only cost me $75!!!

No, i didn't put them on yet because i'm on this 300ZX kick and didn't want to put them on and take them off in like 2 weeks. I took like 2 hours to sand and dremel them and paint them metallic gold too so i really want to put them on, it's killing me. I might just try it myself, but i'm leaving in 15 minutes to look at a 300ZX TT.

Sounds cool, what year 300ZX are you looking to buy? I am considering getting a 2002 Altima or maybe a brand new max? I am really confused, LOL.

a 1990-1992 TT 5-spd. I just drove to look at one today in longmeadow. It was a white 5-spd 91 and there was also a guy from New York there with his kid looking at it and they bought it for 10k before i even got there!!! It was in mint condition, i loved it. It made me want one more, the max is definetly gone now.
