Those with AP racing BBK....

well, even though i swore i wouldn't spend any more money on the max........i have been offered a killer deal on stillen's big brake kit

so i'm seriously considering snagging this upgrade, however i'd love to hear any input people with the kit have

any opinions on stopping power, installation problems, rotor warpage, or anything else that you guys have run into

I don't have the Stillen/AP kit, so I cannot comment on its performance. But I will add a little on BBK's in general.

Depending on the deal you are getting. A BBK is not worth the $$ unless you do track events (roadcourse - HPDE). Also keep in mind that your wheels may not clear the larger calipers, just make sure before you buy.

thanks for the input

i've got 18x8 wheels with plenty of offset so they should clear just fine

i have heard the BBK's mainly help with brake fade, however i'm hoping they will also have an improvement on my braking distances

Waiting for Top Element to come in here and extol the virtues of his "company's" extensively track tested AP Racing BBK... Oh wait...

Anyhow BBKs are awesome. Get it if you can afford it.

Big Baller Kit?

Flood IMHO, you dont need to get that specific kit. I know how you drive, and it's honestly not worth the $$. If you want significantly better stopping distance...your best bet is to get 2k4 max calipers w/ z32 calipers. Can be done for less than AP big baller kit.
Aero kit is next for you I thought??

Unless you're doing roadcourse events, you will never need it. But for $750, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat too.

have fun replacing rotors at $350 each though.

$350 per rotor! Buy the kit for $750, then ebay it. Use the $$ to get a Wilwood 12.2 kit. $100 shipped for a pair of rotors

AP Racing and Brembo aren't the same. AP Racing is a UK based company, while Brembo is Italian.

I love mine, replacement rotors are super cheap, prices on pads are similar to stock pad size prices. Stops on a dime from 100mph+

I believe brembo has bought out AP but they still keep the brands exclusively separate.

Matt is right, its a nice price for the kit but the replacement rotors will be expensive. Stillen has stopped using AP rotors for their maxima/altima kits, hence the reduced pricing. When the time comes you can always find a place to make custom rotors for probably half the cost

Another thing is that yes, bbk's help for brake fade. Another thing is brake leverage (if thats the correct term) which makes the braking power much stronger. Also depending on the piston sizes of the caliper your brake pedal feeling should feel better too

oh.. and I forgot to add: this opinion is actually from someone that owns a bbk

They are Wilwood rotors. Around 100 shipped. Here's where I get them...
http://www.stockcarproducts.com/brakes14d.htm

Part # 1602900 and 1602901

I could get the Wilwood HD rotors, but they are heavier...more vanes

What do you want to know?
a properly built kit will stop the car all day, every day, in any driving condition. My wilwood kit will do that. Hell, even my Z32/2004 Max rotor kits will do that if you get the proper pads and fluid.
the 13" custom setup I have on my car can lock up racing slicks at 120mph on a hot day, even after 1 hour out on the track. how do I know? Stupid Viper cut me off after signaling me to pass and I corded a brand new set of RA-1s.

Maintenance? buy the proper pads and you shouldn't have to do much maintenance.. but when you do, you can't just go to the local parts store and buy new rotors. they're mail order only, and often have lead times of weeks. If you buy a Fastbrakes (Wilwood) kit, you can pick up parts directly from them, or buy from Wilwood or Coleman directly. The parts are easily available from race shops everywhere, as long as they carry Wilwood or Coleman products.

If you buy the AP or Brembo kit from Stillen, expect to pay a HUGE premium on replacement parts. Brembo replacement rotors are $350 each, and that doesn't include the mounting hat. Hats are unavailable, and if you mess up one in your brake kit, they will not well you a replacement. you have to buy an entire new kit for a $100 component.

I don't know what the cost is on the AP stuff, but I'm sure it's similar, since the entire kit is similar in price to the Brembo GT setup.

Just an FYI on how Stillen works..
last month, I called $tillen for a pair of DBA Skyline rotors for my 240. "We're the only US Distributors for DBA. They'll cost you $475 for the front pair. Special order- 1 month lead time. pre pay only."

I called my sales rep at a different company I use for some of my other parts.. "Bah.. eff them. We picked up DBA a few months ago.. I can get them to you for.... click click click...... $85 each.. In stock in our Cali warehouse."

Stillen is supposedly the only authorized US-based sales agent for AP Racing. That means anything you get from AP MUST go through Stillen. and don't think for a second they aren't milking it for all they can, just like their DBA products.

Stillen is the sole distributor for AP Racing street calipers only. Most of their stuff can be purchased elsewhere for much cheaper from places such as Essex Parts. But since Stillen makes the brackets and the hats, the premium is paid if you need to replace those parts.

My Coleman 13" rotors are about $120 each... you can feel a difference with BBK... it's how much you are willing to pay... but for $750 it's a steal as long as all parts are there and still good.

You can get custom 2 piece rotors to replace Stillen's rotors for about $560ish.
