what is this?

What is the sensor looking thing on the timing chain cover??

I'm running out to take a pic now . . .

It looks as though its leaking a small bit? Or is that just random buildup?

The right side of this pic would be the front side of the engine . . .

closer to the front, that wire goes up to the taped up (black) line that runs across the front valve cover

sorry if I got your hopes up, but I can't really run out to my garage to check out mine and see how it looks, cuz it's back in Minnesota, and I'm in Montana. I'm sure someone will chime in. but to be honest, i don't even remember seeing that wire there. I was looking at my valve cover a lot because I was about to work on a polish-up-job, but I must have just missed it.

looks like belt dressing (a spray that is that color which is suppose to stop squeeking belts)

is that your accesory belts right below it?

Good call man! I had a coat of belt dressing on my old belts before I changed them out.

I'm gunna clean around the area and keep an eye out. Thanks for the replies.
