Well I got my First Maxima a 95 auto with 90000 and it runs dam good. I paid what my friend owed on it so I got it for 8100.00 which seems like a good deal. Now I just have a question, It does have 90000 miles on it so I want to know what kind of preventive maintance i should consider doing. Also I live here in Vegas it gets really hot and Trannys take a beating so I want to install a Tranny cooler. Where did you guys mount yours at? Thank you all for your help and I'm glad to be aboard. You all seem very nice and helpful except when you talk bout CL hondas LOL I love Nissan and still own a 510 so I kinda know my nissan's. Any 510 related questions I can help with.

Best Wishes,
Robert

Nice-->

but that funky shifting 5-sp is gonna go out. 3rd and 5th gear is going to start grumbling soon. Mine used to. I had a L20b built to the hilt w/ a original cartech turbo system but never put it in the car. The L20b is a anchor of an engine. Hell the flywheel weighs like 36 lbs.!! If you want to use the L20b. Get the 240z stock flywheel. It's about 24lbs stock and you can use OEM Nissan Z clutches. But you must have a 6 bolt crank shaft though. For carbs, a single sidedraft might work well but dual dcoes (about 45 each) will pull pretty hard. But on my L18sss, I had sss roundtop SUs. Very good throttle response. For engine swaps, sky is the limit. Basicly how much $$ do you have to spend?? Also try to get a pre 75' L20b square port head w/o those funky liners.

FJ20 swaps are common but these engines are super heavy.
FJ20-turbos. Heavy but at 300+hp, who cares!!??!?
Any rotary conversion is easy.
SCC had a VG30 na and single turbo conversions featured. Again fairly easy.
Japan L18 factory turbos w/ efi have been done.
Japan SR20DET have been done. This would be a very good conversion. Lots of power potential and install should be not too much of a problem.
I've see a L24 conversion but that's just crazy! heh!

I've been out of the 510 scene for 10 years though!

Yep

Ya you see that guys 510 in SCC this month? Frickin sick man, rx7 front end is yummy. Ya I'm looking for a 280z tranny around here to replace it eventually. I like the 200sx tranny cause for autocrossing is a straight through from 2nd to 3rd gear I have an old 2.4 block but I don't want to really spend the money on it. I'd rather have the 2.2 to build on. I can't decide! I may just get another L20 and build it up,as my buddy has a bad *** L20 with duel mikunies 44m it pulls hard. I have been trying to get ahold of one of those flywheels but they hard to find any 240's together anymore.
Nissan sells one buts it way to much money. Hey one question what do the square ports in the head do? I have a L20 out of a 78 Datsun pickup I picked up for 125 bucks with like 80000 miles on it and one rebuild so its been around the block so to speak. I just got my Maxima so I have to put the 510 on the back burner for now I think I need a second job hehe. Thanks for the reply

No problem. No one else here knows->

squat about 510 here

Well try to find a Nissan only boneyards. Look in the back of Road & Track. Or use a search on the internet.

You can use the post 75' L20 heads but they have the stupid liner in the exhaust ports. You can have them ground off though. Square ports were better becuase I think all the headers available were for the square port design. Try to get the head redone w/ ss steel valve seats(so you can run unleaded) and have some Z intake valves installed(bigger). Check the valve guides and maybe get a few thousand shaved off the deck for more compression. You can do that later but the flywheel is a must. Just not needed for a light car like the 510. Getting even a lighter one like 18-20lbs. would not be bad either. I always partial to SU carbs becuase they were so easy to tune. But for the L20, you will need bigger ones off the roadster or adapt a pair off of a EARLY 240z. That would be ideal. Not too hard to adapt despite the reverse linkage.
