Sylvania Silverstar = Short Life Span

Hey guys, I've replaced those Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in my 95 Maxima several times in the last 2-3 years. I'm sick of changing out these bulbs so frequently. And, it's not because I touched the bulbs with my fingers or anything like that. Any other lights you guys have used that you recommend that are an improvement over the OEM bulbs? Thanks.

personally i dont think projectors are worth it unless u have clear headlights....if he's just looking for better than stock lighting...PIAAs should do more than well...with me??i bought Silverstars last summer and i havent had to replace them...mine's are brighter than most ppl's headlights too...im not complaining...i would definitely get PIAAs when mine go out though.

The silver stars I had sucked. I had to change them every 4-6 months I say. If one went out then I knew the other was gonna go in a month or less. I turned around bought a set of high output bulbs <some japanesse brand> for 5$ on ebay. They have lasted longer then the silverstars. I do though plan on goin' with PIAAs. I have seen then and they look sick. Much more light output also.

i purchased some silverstars to replace the ebay specials i had ( not that there was anything wrong with them- but i thought silverstars would be brighter). i ended up taking the silverstars back the next day. they were UGLY and looked stock. the ebay lights that cost me $13 shipped were a lot brighter. and they're what im runnin today- no problems yet.

i'll prob look into gettin PIAAs when these go out, cuz i got ion yellow PIAA fogs and i love them!

I use PIAAs on all my lights and they have a very long lifespan. My headlights I had in for 2 years before I replaced them, and they where still working (but getting dull). My driving lights lated around the same amount of time, when I recently replaced them. (I always drive with them on.) So I highly recommend PIAAs. They just cost alittle more than most.

I had the same problem, they only lasted for 4 months. First the left side then a week later the right. Worst of all they are very expensive ($40 for a pair).

I tried Silverstars in my Maxima at one point and they were complete garbage. Then I realized how much of a fool I was for spending $40 on Halogen lights with a blue coating over them; what was I thinking? If you're gonna go non-HID, then leave it stock halogen. Fake-HID, plasma blue, superwhite, hyper purple and what have you, will all REDUCE the light output of your headlights, and in the rain you might as well pull over.

Another for PIAA's. I've been using them for three years without any problems. They do cost more intially, but it beats the hell out of constantly replacing bulbs. I have had Silverstars and personally think they suck, especially on wet roads. The PIAA's are well worth the $$, in my humble opinion. I have them in both my heads and fogs. This seems to be the case of 'you get what you pay for.'

i havnt noticed a short life expectency on the silverstars. had them on my max for 10 months so far with no problems( headlights + foglights). i had them on my mazda , they lasted for 2 years before the first one burned out. all this was with above average night driving.

I second, that. I have tired super whites, hyper whites, super plasma...whatever, they all suck at light output.

Does anybody know the actual life span of the piaa's?

I just have a hard time spending $80 on bulbs.

The silverstars life span is 150 hours. Silverstar lifespan is short due to the filament being brough to its limit. I found the silverstars to have excellent light output in comparison to regular halogens. I still have my first pair which I bought 2 years ago and I only use them when going on long trips to places with limited amounts of street lights.
