Broke the clutch pedal - 5spd converted gle

So after squeaking for about two years, my clutch pedal broke at the mounting point. My car was converted to 5spd in 2002 & I had used washers to create a space at the firewall. My suggestions to others is if you have a squeak and you converted your car, make sure you have a good spacer in there or you'll snap yours eventually too.

Now, does anyone have one for sale or know the nissan part number? If not, what are good dealers online to go to? thx

Way to contribute to the thread...

Sucks to hear about your problem. Did you use the supporting bracket for the pedal? Did the pedal rip out of the mounting or did the pedal itself break? This thread is of interest to me because I too am a converted 5spd. No squeaking besides the sound the spring makes when it's depressed.

I have the same problem as this thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ight=new+pedal

The conversion cost me roughly 1200 with an ACT clutch. Did the work by myself. I was one of the first few to be converted after my auto blew at 36k or so....

Everything used was identical to a 5spd maxima except for the spacer that I made. I had made it from washers. I think when I get a replacement pedal I'll just have to create a real spacer.

i'm about to use 2 large nuts stacked together as a spacer. Now that i see this thread i may have to rethink using those nuts. What did everyone use or suggest to use for the spacer?

I would suggest something that evenly redistributes the pressure applied when you press the pedal down. something probably in a square shape thats flat.....imo

I'm surprised there are so few instances of this happening. Anyone know the part number of the Nissan spacer?

That is totally not like what the spacer looked like when i took off the pedal off the donor car. Unfortunately that spacer looked welded onto the donor car. Perhaps the spacer was different on different year maximas?

well, i used 4 large nuts, and i bolted on the supporting bracket, even though I had to bend some of it because it wasn't *perfectly* in line with the mounting points. My clutch pedal doesnt squeak at all, and it's pretty sturdy. I think one mistake that was on Hal's writeup was that he threw away the mounting bracket.

i was thinking of getting one of my friends to machine something out of an aluminum bar. I don't think that would be too hard to make and shouldn't cost more than couple bucks for the bar either.
