Speed Sensor Code

My check engine light came on for a bad speed sensor. I had the speed sensor changed and the check engine light came on again for the speed sensor code. What else could be causing the speed sensor code to come on other than a bad speed sensor?

Apparently a bad instrument cluster (speedo or RPM gauge, I'm not sure which) can also cause that code.

Did you have any problems with RPM readings?

My RPM gauge fluctuates between 2k and 3k sometime, I was wondering if it has something to do with speed sensor.

You most likely have a bad gauge. Is the VSS code set in the ECU (i.e. is the CEL lit like in the original posters case?)

TriniRicanPapi, I had/have the same problem, and now I'm thinkin it's my gauge cluster too. Does your cruise control work intermittently? Mine only works like half the time and it's got to be the vehicle speed sensor code because that's the only one that's thrown when I check the codes.

I have a stick I30t and I replaced the vehicle speed sensor since my CEL was on with that code, it hasn't came back for the 9,000 miles I have driven since then. However my instrument cluster reading sometimes dies out when I'm going below 30mph, but will jump back up after 30-35mph...that's my cluster though (according to my mech)
