TPS question

Ok so i got the 20k jdm engine put in (Japanese imported with mevi). Except im having a weird idling issue. The rpms will drop to 500 or so and make it idle real rough but this is only when i drive it. When i start the car it idles perfectly at 700. Figured it was a bad tps and went looking at it. The tps that came with the engine has only 1 plug on it and only 1 plug to plug into it. The one on my old engine had 2 plugs for it. Is it possible im having an ECU confliction problem? I also realized that i cant check my sensors through my ecu scanning software now. I used to be able to see the current rpms of my engine and do a 0-60 and 1/4 mile run and the comp program would tell me everything. Now the software cant detect any of those sensors. I dont know what year the engine was but only that its between a 95-99 and jap spec. Any clues?

The US style TPS has a throttle closed position switch incorporated into it. Hance the 2 plugs. If your ECU doesn't see that signal, your idle wount be stable and your ECU will not go into a ready mode. You should also have a check engine light indicating a TPS malfunction.

See if you can incorporate the US style throttle body with the correct TPS on it into your new set up.

I think i may only need the wiring harness that runs across the manifold. Does any1 have an extra? or any NJ people know some good junk yards around here

I just got trouble code p1335 which i think is crankshaft pos sensor (ref). Is it possible that that is what is causing the weird idling problems? any1 have experience with this sensor

2 plugs-->1 plug? i think yours is 2 plugs because you have an auto maxima. for a 5 speed, the tps only has 1 plug. so that jdm engine must have came off from a 5 speed cefiro (maxima). you may want to look into this auto-->5speed compatiability, too. If this is the case, you're prolly going to need to replace the wiring harness with your old engine's, including the ECU.

good luck...

it has 1 plug and im a 5spd my orig 1 was 2 plugs. But if there was something wrong with it people said it would throw a code and its not. I just started getting the code for crankshaft position sensor though. Would this cause these problems?

wait, how did you get 2 plugs for a 5-speed car? i dont' get it, was it from a tranny swap? auto-->5-speed?

i do remember that when my tps went bad, and i was buying a new one from the shop, they quoted me the differences, too. 5 speed tps has 1 plug with 3 wires for sure and it costs like around 40 bucks. an auto tps has 2 plugs with 3 wires each and it costs around 100 bucks+. maybe this is a cause to your problems, maybe not. but as far as the plugs go, i'd be more careful to check on all pluggins before making assumptions that sensors are bad and throwing codes.

Well there has to be a reason to the code being thrown. If what your saying is true the TPS thats in the car is the right one. Its a 1 plug Hitatchi TPS (the brand of all the cefiro sensors). The tps isnt throwing any codes but i still got the p1335 since yesterday

why not just replace 1-plug tps with 2-plug one.

Alright since everyone sounds confusded. There is a 1 plug tps with a 1plug harness on my engine now. Putting a 2 plug on there throws a code since it leaves one of the plugs empty. i have a 2 plug from my old engine in the garage but dont have the main harness for it

I replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor code went away but still had same problems. So far i have cleaned the tb and IACV and replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I realized it only does this when the engine is not completely warm then it stops perfectly at 700 rpms. Is replacing the engine harness to one that has 2 plugs for the tps and putting the 2 plug tps on there gonna fix it?
