Help Me! Serious Problem?

Hello all

Im having a problem with my Maxima.

When I press down the gas pedal, all the way...the car revs but it does not accelerate at all

its not the transmission because it shifts gears without a problem at normal driving speeds and I have made it to 70 mph without an issue (shifted fine at normal speeds)

this problem occurs only when I step on the gas (floor it)....it doesnt matter what gear Im in...when I step on it, it revs and doesnt accelerate at all

what is the problem? how much will it run me?

any help will be appreciated.

thanks

How did you get up to 70MPH without stepping on the gas?

WHen I press the gas all the way down.....it doesnt go anywhere

When I drive normally it shifts fine...I just cant accelerate as fast as I should

ex: When Im driving to merge unto the highway, I press the gas all the way down (pedal to the floor)...it wont acccelerate

He means if he FLOORS it the car doesn't go.. if he gradually accelerates normally it does

I say Kickdown switch?

Automatic when floored = downshifts into a lower gear, revs that gear out and continues to the higher gear. POS AUTO

Similar Issue - RESOLVED

I had a similar issue with my 97 GXE.

What was happening was, regular driving, shifting up etc. all worked just fine and I did not notice any flare-up of the RPM. But when I was driving at say 75-80MPH at 5th gear and floored the gas pedal, instead of the car accelerating, I would see the tachometer flare up, settle down a few hundred RPM's and THAN it would have a gradual accleration. Almost like as if the acceleration was not linear.

BTW - my vehicle already had 134,000 miles on stock clutch and it was good time replace the clutch. So I had a clutch job done and also replaced the flywheel with Nissan OEM parts.

Everthing is fine. My vehicle is completely stock.
