Car still worth anything?

Hey all, my third gear in my auto died last Friday. I am debating on selling it, is it still worth anything? It's a 98 SE, 130K.

Nope -- not worth anything. Sell it to me for $250 -- I'll even come pick it up

why not check the kbb value for the car, then subtract the amount of a new tranny + labor estimate from what it tells you and sell it for that...assuming that is the other thing wrong that is.

Maybe you should take each part individually and sell them .. might make more $$ in the long run .. just don't sell the trans

Good point as we all know a car is worth more in parts than whole, but its too much of a pain in the @ss to list things, take them off the car, mail them etc. etc. I guess the worst part is I put a new TPS sensor, Knock sensor, center console lid, the new alternator, new driving lights and lastly a remote start within the past 3 months. Real bummer, I was hopping to get more miles on it.

yea that does sound like a bummer.

Just to start you off. I'll PM with some of the parts i might be interested in.

Well i'm sure you can $1000 worth of parts off the car in a day. And on top of that, you can problay sell it to Victory auto and make another $250-500 off the car.

or if you like the car, just fix it / get it fixed. If it's sound aside from the transmission, a few hundred dollars, the right shop, and you're good for a year.

I was thinking about fixing it but it's hard to find a reputable shop. I've asked around my area but no one has any suggestions... plus I would need to find a trans donor in good shape to replace it with...

If i had the time and the money, i do another auto trans swap....swapped my trans in my garage, but it took me 3 weeks of off and on work. Not all day and everyday i worked on my car. There was prolly 12 hrs of actually labor work over a 3 week period. All in all it i spent a little be over $350. $350 for the tranny and a few things that i replaced along with swapping the tranny. That reminds me i still have to pay Ty the $150 i still owe him.

Hard, considering it was my first time swapping a trans. And it also depends on your mechanic abilities. If you have done extensive work and have the right tools you might be able to do it. You definantly are going to need someone else to help you bring down and up the old and the new trans. Remember the auto trans itself weighs around 150 - 170 lbs.

Breaker bars and a pipe that is stinkin big, will be your best friend when swapping out trannies. Tool set that consists of 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and possibly 3/4in drive wrenchs, sockets, extentions, and universals. A spare jack with a wide base or a trans jack to bring down and up the trans. Extra hands is needed when swapping the trans. Plus a repair manual preferably Haynes.

Hmmm, I have all that, except for the extra hands. This might be an interesting project. How did you find and choose the trans?

bought my car in 99. Had 65,000 miles, all orginal. Dilivered pizzas in it for two years full time. Has 380,000 miles now, with no engine troubles, other than a knock sensor, and an alt.. But, I'm on my 3rd trans, with one being rebuilt twice.

If anyone knows a trans, or trans upgrade, let me know. The stock maxima tras is sorry, have 4 friends that bought a max since I got mine, all but one has already had to get a rebuild / replacement.
