$$$ Timing Belt Replacement

I have 70000 miles on my i30t and was wondering about how much a timing belt would be to replace? Also any other service checks i should do at this mileage? Thanks

No timing belt in the VQ30. Its a chain and should last the life of the engine

Since you missed the major service at 60K, you shouldn't do anything for another 50K, then its ok to catch up at 120K.

how are you still confused, its been said atleast 3 times that we have chains not belts. It was an honest question at first but the fact that you still think our engines have a belt, READ THE DAMN STICKIES

The carburetors should be rejetted at the same time you change your timing belt.

Also replace the distributor cap and spark plug wires. That should have been done at 60K.

Well I will try and give you a hand. What year is your car and what mileage did it have on it when you bought it? What maintenance have you done to it?

I suspect the car hasn't had the 60K service, so that should be done for starters.

If the following have not been replaced by you, they probably should: spark plugs, fuel filter, PCV valve, air filter, radiator coolant, automatic transmission flushed, power steering fluid replaced (turkey baster method is ok), brakes flushed if no brake work has been done yet, rotate tires.

There are a lot of inspections that are done at 60K and these should certainly be done: exhaust, suspension, steering, CV boots, hoses, belts, lights etc.

Read the stickies and FAQs and buy a Haynes manual if there is one available for you year.

You should also clean your fuel injectors if you haven't done that before. Consider using Chevron Techron, BG44K or Gumout Regane before your next oil change.

You also might want to check out the following products: AutoRX (www.auto-rx.com), Lubecontrol LC20 & FP60 (www.lubecontrol.com)

Good luck!

poor guy, got clowned so bad over here. let's staright him out.

"there are no timing belts on our VQ's," we'll say this for the LAST TIME!!!!!

if you mention the word "timing belt" again, I'll find your location and go there just kick your *****. we only have a timing chain, and it shouldn't need to be replaced for the engine's lifespan. get that straight before you nut again on this forum...

Perhaps you are retarded! After 9 or 10 months on this website and a little research, one would think you wouldn't ask such an inane question.

Now get with the program and do some research. Spoonfeeding 101 is not offered here!

You could have thanked me for the feedback I provided in my previous post but I guess that would be asking too much!

You may be starting to come around ever so slightly and have every reason to question yourself! You still haven't thanked me for the input I gave you, which is the last constructive feedback you will get from me unless I see an attitude adjustment.

also learn to accept humor when you post something funny. but the serious question to your answer is 91-92 had timing chains on se 190hp model only and 95-99 has timing chain on all models that require no maintenance unless they go bad which is very rare. timing belts are made of rubber which crack and break in time, and the timing chain is a chain like a bicycle that doesnt wear.

Not that it matters too much in this case, but the VE was from 92-94 SE's and had a timing chain, 89-94 GXE's and 89-91 SE's had the VG and had timing belts.
