What is the difference between the NGK Platinum and Iridium plugs? Are Platinum plugs worth the extra dough?

iridium are better than the platinums and you should use the PLATINUMS AT LEAST in our cars, no copper ones.

Some Maxima owners have been dissatisfied with the Bosch +4 spark plugs. They report an irregular idle and stumbling on acceleration. If you are satisfied with the way your engine runs with the Autolites don't change a thing!
Finally, the voice of reason! The inflation rate will have to quadruple before I pay $10 for a spark plug!

I know this is an old thread but, I called Monarch and he said "There is now way in hell these plugs would sell for $6.40 even at wholesale cost". If somebody can get them for $6.40 let me know I want to make some cash!

OLD thread ALERT... BUT...

I have used all of the following three in a Maxima... The +4's, the NGK Iridium's, and of course the OEM NGK Platinum's.

I don't recommend the +4's. Why, it isn't because your car will be slower. I was running my car at the track during the time and got maybe .1 better in the 8th, but that was mostly do to the fact that I had NEW SPARK PLUGS and the old ones need to be CHANGED!!! lol The reason I say don't use the +4's is because over time it cause my car to idle ruff. Just wasn't as smooth as it was when I switched the +4's out for the NGK's again. And no, it wasn't time to change my plugs.

The last time I put plugs in my car I did a lot of research calling and talking to techs at Nissan and NGK directly. Also talked to guys at DENSO. My debate was should I switch to Iridium over my Platinum ones. After all was said and done I went with the NGK Iridium's, and I even think I got them for $4.75 at the time??? Anyway, with the Iridium's you will have to change them almost twice as often as the Platinum ones, but you will have a better performance plug with a smaller electrode. And yes, it does meet the specs of what the VQ requires.

And if you put any plug in and think it is better solely on the basis that your car might be running faster in the 1/8 or 1/4, then you are forgetting that you just took out OLD plugs and put in NEW plugs and that is what is supposed to happen, especially if it was time for a change!!! LOL

Just my two cents Do your own DD!!

Well I ordered mine a while ago and no one had them. They ahd to look them up when I did get them, so it is possible he charged me the wrong rate. Or they just raised the rate realizing these plugs were worth more.
