Budget Y-Pipe vs Home Made
I'm looking at ordering a Budget Y-pipe for the maxima. I'm emailing with an exhaust place in Ontario, Canada. Is this the same "Budget" as others have used? I found very little information on the internet about this company.
They are quoting me a price of about 165 US dollars. Has anyone fabricated their own or had a local exhaust shop fabricate one for cheaper?

Yes that is the same Budget. They go by Lyell's exhaust also. Thats about the price I paid for mine. Check here also www.lssexhaust.com

in your opinion, what's the best y-pipe? spend the 299 for the Custom Enterprise? or go with cheaper for say 150-200? in my experiences in the tuning world, you get what you pay for. but the cheaper y's seem pretty popular compared to the others.

MY friend gave me a price on making one being extremely generous and it was 150..mild steel..the flex-section is what shoots the price up......he said if there wa no flex he could do it for 100....so 165 isnt bad knowing its stainless

mine took about an hour with the right tools and everything was prepped before hand. i soaked the bolts in PB blaster and had a cutoff wheel for the bolts on the cat. drilled them out and got new bolts from loews

thanks guys, i appreciate the input. one more question about y-pipe... mild steel? aluminized? stainless??? im pretty sure with the NJ weather i should go with stainless, but what's the difference? is there any diff in gains? sound? i think when i do this, imma have an exhaust shop replace all the bolts so i don't have to worry about the hassle of cutting and drilling and all that fuss. also, what about a b-pipe? say i totally overhauled my exhaust setup and got new y, b, and cat. conv. would it be better just to get a y, cat and cb exhaust or what? i've heard random makes one of the better cats. again, thanks for the input!

just go for the y if money is in the least bit a factor for all of this. it is by far the best gains for the buck. obviously, redoing the entire exhaust will result in gains for the car, but very minimal more just to say you have a complete exhaust than anything, I think. a b-pipe isn't really an issue unless you are FI'd. it not, just get the y and be happy. oh, and SS. it will save you money and headaches later on.

can you really see $100 difference in quality? personally, I have never seen any in person. I bought my Budget on a budget and at the time, there were basically no complaints on it. I felt like I was getting what I needed for the price I wanted to pay.
