9004 to 9007 confusion

I have a 95 with 9004 bulbs and a SUVLIGHTS harness (for 9004's) that would allow me to run higher wattage bulbs. After reading the 12 pages of posts on the conversion to 9007 bulbs, it seemed like doing it would be a good idea.

I switched the wires on the new SUVLIGHTS harness (where they plug into the headlights), and I get great high beams but only poor low beams. I even tried it both possible ways, i.e. when looking at the headlight plug form the wire side I switched first the center and right wires, (very dark low beams) so then I tried switching the center wire with the left wire and I get great higs but poor lows. although not as bad as the first attempt.

Do I need to leave the new harness wirering alone and switch the old headlight plug wirering, where the old plugs go into the new harness. This should be simply but I seem to be pretty thick when it comes to this.

Any ideas??? Obviously something it wrong. Any ideas???

the only way to run 9007 on the 9004 harness is to swap the low beam and ground wires at the bulbs. leave everything else alone.

the ground is the black one and switch the black wire with the center one( the one right next to the black ground wire) take off 2 lower tabs on headlight housing. put 9007 bulbs in. insulate wiring. turn lights on and adjust. done.

I am not familiar with that wiring harness, but are all 3 wires upgraded to a bigger gauge? If not the current still chokes at the smaller wire, for example the ground wire. Kinda like an amp kit for example, you wouldn't want to run 4ga. power and an 8ga ground.

I am not running higher wattage bulbs, just Sylvania High Visability 9007's. Well actually they are a bit higher than stock but only 10 watts. The harness is well made so I don't think that is the problem. Wires look plenty stout enough and certainly thicker than the stock wires. I am going to try adjusting the headlamps down considerably and see how that works.

my cousin had bad luck with eurolites. she went through multiple 9006 (low beam) in her accord. the high beams (9005) were the same brand but in purple, which lasted longer but i belive its because she doesnt use them as often. i say stand clear of rice bulbs.

OT funny thing is i have a pair of apc simulated HID 9004's. they have been in 1 3rd gen, 2 4th gens, and now currently in the beater. they are old as hell but still work. $20 a piece back in 2000 or so. i also have some cool blues the same age, about the same price too, and they still work.

Still screwy

I adjusted the 9007 converted headlamps down 1 turn, then 2 turns, then three turns, then four turns, then 5 turns. It helped a bit but still very poor on low beam but very good on high. This is with the 9007 Sylvania Xtra Vision bulbs and the SUVLIGHTS 9004 harness converted (apparently incorrectly) to 9007.

Trying to trouble shoot it myself I took the 9007 bulb out of the headlamp housing, plugged it into the harness and turned the lights on .

With low beams I get a good bright light and with the high beams on (after I put on two pairs of sunglasses) I found that both filaments are burning. No wonder I get great highs.

So what did I do wrong????? For now I went back to the 9004 bulbs as I have a long night driving trip. But I have to think something is wrong. Any help or ideas are appreciated.
