hard starting
hard starting
My car in the last 2 weeks has needed alot of extra cranking. I just cleaned the TB this summer and also tuned it up. Sometimes it will like fire for a split second then just go back to cranking. This car sits for 4 months in a building with stabil in the gas every year and always fires up right away. LIke I said it's just come on in the last week or so.

have you tried caressing the max, and talking to it, if that doesnt help try giving it a nice slap on the rear bumper and say giddity up. Worse come to worse i think we all kno what to do when you are in the back and you see the rear bumper then look down further and see the tail pipe, you kno what you may have to do

The code will tell you exactly which one is bad... what code did you get?
Read the farkin stickys cripes ...
0407
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0407 indicates a malfunction was detected when...
A) 120 degree signal is not entered to ECM for the first few seconds during
engine cranking.
B) 120 degree signal is not entered to ECM during engine running.
C) 120 degree signal cycle excessively changes during engine running.
Possible causes...
- Harness or connectors
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF)
- Starter motor
- Starting system circuit

Well I just tried to start it again it was turning over for about 5 secs then it just died. All I get is a click in the start position. I guess I should replace the starter first. The REF sensor is the 1 that is bolted onto the oil pan right.
Are you saying if my CPS went that it might not let my starter do anything. I just don't know where to start. Should I just replace the sensor or the starter or just do both. I just don't want to be a parts jockey.
I don't think the CPS code will prevent the starter from turning over the engine, however a bad starter might cause the CPS code to be thrown... so... to put it straight: replace the starter.

Well it starts better most of the time. Now I have 2 codes again for the last two days I have had 0401 intake air temp sensor and today after a hard start I see the CPS ref has come back. Can an air temp sens trigger anything else sensor wise. The car runs well otherwise. I just hate to keep throwin sensors at this and not fixin the problem.
I think thats part of my problem all the sensors I have tested check out within spec. The only 1 that I have not tested is the ECTS. I probably should just replace that anyway considering it's original with 192,000 mi and it was not starting to good on a hot start however when I changed my starter that kind of went away now it only acts up every once and awhile.

That's his beer talkin'...
Check the wiring
... that code will also wreak havoc with your starter.
