I broke my power antenna today.

I just snapped it with garage door while it was out.
It broke complitely from the bottom, and I removed it with the internal white cable. What is the best way to fix it and how/where to order parts online.

P.S.
Motor inside is still running.

You just need a replacement mast (it includes the white toothed cable) - Ebay, pepboys, etc. 15-20 bucks.

Maybe not, you might have to replace the entire antenna motor assembly. I bought my car with a broken antenna mast, and have never been able to get the old mast out. I've even brought it to stereo places as well. If your mast is still stuck in, then the old "turn on the stereo and the mast will feed itself out" trick will not work (obviously) since the white cable isn't there. It's a big pain...

As long as the motor spins, you can just replace the mast. If you have pieces of the cable broken off and stuck inside the motor assembly, you can just unmount the motor from the fender and disassemble it on a bench. Its a few screws. Once opened, you can remove any offending pieces and regrease the moving parts.

you don't need it anyway, there's a second in the defrost. I just disconnected mine, but since you've gone one step further just get seom plaster and your favorite crayon and color it over - better than new

How do you connect the defroster antenna or better yet what does it look like and where is the location of the wire for it. Have after market radio and wouldn't mind fiddling with this if it will improve reception.

The defroster antenna is connected to the HU from the factory - so there are 2 antennas (for diversity), the mast and the printed one.

Maybe the antenna line is disconnected from the mast antenna assembly or from the printed antenna.

I've found that the rear window defroster causes interference in my radio reception - I have some defroster lines that don't work- so the breaks in those lines must be causing EMI with the printed antenna (in my case).

its not disconnected from the mast assy. i dont know what else to do.. is there a way to disconnect the defrost one so i can test? i really don't think just buying a new mast will fix it.. my mast works fine. i might be wrong, tho..

I don't remember if the connection is behind the driver or passenger side 3-pillar trim - but you could pull that trim off and disconnect the printed antenna connection and see if that helps.

Do you have a Bose HU?

Um, no. I've had it apart, and the previous mast (that was snapped off somehow) is stuck inside the pole - there is nothing where the motor is. I know how to get it out, and dissassemble it, but the pole does not disconnect from the motor. Stereo shops have tried to get the mast out without success. I need to get a replacement motor assembly. I was just giving this guy a heads up, because my mast won't come out.

I had the same problem with my old mast. It just wouldn't budge out of the housing. I ended up deciding I would try one last time (figuring that if I broke the motor, I'd just replace the whole darn thing) and I managed to get it loose. The trick is the grab the mast (as close to the top of the motor assembly as possible) with a pair of pliers with a good bite and then try to rotate the mast to break it loose. Hope that helps.

I mean C-pillar trim - the pieces of trim that your rear seatbelts pass through.

I hate to be so skeptical of a well respected member, and I hope the advice you're giving me works that one last time for me...in my experience, and believe me I used pliers and all the force I could muster, my old, stuck, broken mast won't budge. I really hope I don't have to replace the motor assembly, I guess there's still hope.

Hey - appreicate the vote of confidence and compliment. This is the way I look at it - right now you're going to replace the motor unit anyway, so if you really damage it while attempting to muscle the other mast out, you aren't really any worse off. Heck, if I was local, I would have met up with you and taken a look.

Have you looked at a replacement mast? If you can run to pepboys or something just to see one, you'll see that there is an o-ring sort of thing at the very bottom. This is the locking ring/system that secures the mast into the housing. Once mine broke loose (via rotating the mast with a lot of muscling and a set of pliers), the mast came right out.

Give it a shot - and you have every right to be skeptical. Not everything you read on the internet is true

I've actually bought two (returned them both after failure, haha). Ill have to give it another shot sometime, as you said, it can't hurt.

Hello MAXRB8,

I saw your post about the mast replacement. Does the mast you purchased have the small, tapered tip like the factory mast or is it big and round like most of the replacement masts on Ebay? I have a 98 SE that the motor works great, but somehow the mast gets over-extended, meaning the motor seems to push it up too far, so that the second sleeve almost comes out of the bottom sleeve. I was either going to remove the motor, disassemble it and try to move the cable a few teeth back to correct it, or simply purchase a replacement mast (I've replaced these before, so I know how easy it is). Let me know either way and thanks. Ted, Chicago

BigLou93SE and njmodi,
I've had the same problem BigLou93SE has had with the antenna mast not wanting to budge out of the motor. I COULD NOT for the life of me get that thing to budge, and I tried so freakin hard to get that thing out. I tried the pliers thing too; heck, I offered $5 to any of my friends who could get it loose, still no success. It had to have been rusted in there or something. I just ended up getting a new motor off of eBay, problem solved.

Send me your old antenna assembly (if you still have it).. I'm not too far from you!
