so i got pulled over for legal tints
I have 35% and 20% on the rear. The cop said that 30% is legal and that 35% is illegal. BUT if I were to have 20% on the front it would be illegal also. So...if 20% is dark/illegal and 35% is light as sh*t/illegal...what makes 30% legal?
Make sense? Nope.

Well I told the cop...35 is lighter than 30. He said no 100-35 is 65 and thats less than 70. I said well if thats the case than wouldnt 20% be illegal because its darker than 30? He said yes everything except 30 is illegal on the front. I said...i dont know about that. He let me go....there was no ticket. But still. Im so confused. I know a thing or two about tint...its simple. But this threw me all off.

Wait, is it even a requirement to have a GED or diploma to be a police officer?

the cop knew the law and wasnt as dumb as yall make him out to be, it was just a matter of the way you look at the tint percets. like DragonMaxima said earlier 70% is the tint limit in NY; so this means that 70% of the light must shine through or another way of saying it is that only 30% of the light is blocked. when we normally talk about tints and say 5%, 20% or in your case 35%, we're saying that x % of the light is able to shine through. in the 35% percent case, 35% of the light is able to shine through and 65% of it is blocked out. so the cop knew what he was talking about, he just had a very bad way of explaining it.

We have it on our lincence. You put it behind the window, and if you can't read the background over halfway up, it's illegal (the background fades). It's all crap, tint laws are in place to give the police a reason to pull you over, when there would not of been a legit reason before. I have 15 on every window but the front on a (almost) black car, I've only been pulled over twice for it, because only a ***** cop will pull you over for that, seeing as how even most police know it's a crap law. So, if you see blue lights, and all you were doing was riding on illegal tint, be prepared.

Tint window law sucks; back windows in NY as dark as you want, front ones 70% which is almost clear and useless; I got 35% all around as per tint guy told me any darker will get you lots of tickets and you will be back asking me to remove it, I am half way happy with it but really wanted 5% rear window and 20% in all 4 windows because 35% is really light on sunny days. Well, when get money will redo it again. When cops pull you over for anything else they will give you tickets for tinting as well; so my advise is: whenever get pull over roll all your windows down to avoid illegal tinting ticket. Most of traffic laws are to only to make money, like seat belt, speeding 55 mph when every body goes 70, etc...
