I spoke to someone at Nissan. They checked my VIN number and said that there is no recall on my particular Maxima.

 

I also called (800)NISSAN-1 and gave them my VIN. They have all my info on their system, name, address, phone numbers. I specifically asked them to check any recall including voluntary recall. A gentleman said their system has both mandatory and voluntary recalls but it doesn't pop up any for my 96 Maxima in CA.

 

I have a 96 Maxima SE with 87k on it. Just got this done myself.


The dealer I went to had what they called an MIL Emissions Recall Kit for this exact purpose.

I'm having all parts installed and covered by Nissan.

The point I was trying to make is that this WAS an old post, but that this is still an active recall. Since I have seen several other .org members post threads about EVAP codes RECENTLY, and what to do about them, maybe this will help them out.

maxwillden, I don't think Erik meant anything negative by his comment. I have been getting EVAP codes lately but I called Nissan and my VIN isn't covered (CA car).

 

This actually did help me. I called Nissan NA and they said that the previous owner of my car had taken the car in for the recall work in 98. I had no way of knowing since I just bought the car less than 2 months ago. Feels good to know that the problem was taken care of in my 96 GXE.

 

Well, I just took my car in for an oil change yesterday and didn't hear anything about this. I called the nissan number today and found out it was done in 1999 on my car

The last max I had (before it got totaled ) had a problem where the MIL light would come on once in a while...guess that might have been the problem with that one. There was always an O2 sensor in the codes.

Hmmm, my VIN is earlier than this range (704973) and it's still a '96 (probably an early one with 5/95 build date). And it's a CA car. I've recently been having trouble with the MIL light designating a problem with the vent control valve circuit. I took it to an independent shop, they couldn't find anything wrong, reset the light, and it hasn't come on over the last couple hundred miles. But I understand it may come on again later. It's hard to understand why the recall wouldn't apply to CA cars as mine has the problem.

 

Yup! Same thing with my car! Only mine comes on within a few miles of reseting it. I get two codes at the same time. The one you said and a knock sensor circuit. You're right, we should be covered.

 

I realize this is an old thread, but what is that Recall # again? The one that I will tell the dealer? Thanks.

 

so no recalls at all for 1995 max??

 

There may be some for the late 95's but you all have to remember that if you have an aftermarket exhaust on your car they won't change those parts for free.

 

I'm going to give them a call today to see if min is covered. My cel keeps coming on and the code is 0705 small evap canister leak.

will they still replace those parts for free now?
are there any requirements that you need for them to be able to replace it? like, your car has to be still under warranty?
cuz i wanna have those replaced if they are bad.

 

I just called three different dealerships here in town and all three of them said they know nothing about it. Guess I'll just have to buy the parts and do it myself.

 

go to the first page of the tread and get Nissan's phone #. Call them and get the info first hand!

 

F.Y.I I just called 1-800-nissan1 and gave then my vin# they said that there are no recalls of any kind for my car. I even told them about the evap & o2 recall and she said that there is still nothing she could do for me because it goes by your vin #. So it's not for all 96's.
