Speedo going wack?

Lately in the cold weather the speedo has been acting a bit crazy... before the car has warmed up when I'm driving, I'll notice that the speedo drops rapidly before picking up again when I step on the throttle. Now the car drives totally fine and I am definately accelerating, but the harder I hit the throttle the more it drops... anybody else have this problem?

Tighten all the connections on the back of your instrument cluster. You should also pull the plug off of your VSS, clean it all off, and reinstall. Just sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

I have the exact same problem but mine seems to be more...My speedo sleeps until I hit past 40mph, unless I smack the cluster real hard on top and it'll work for a sec then go back down....120K miles, changed my VSS, and I've had my mech attempt to "repair" the cluster, which he did and the repair worked for 1 month then back to "normal"

You just described the exact problem I have - I don't have to add or remove a single word. Still trying to find a solution for this annoyance..

After driving for like an hour and a half at 80mph, my speedo just ceased to work on the highway. Odometer, trip odometer, speedo all stopped moving. After I got home and retstarted the engine a few hours later, all was well again. Same problem?

Oh so I guess I don't have the common problem here... mine only does it when it's cold and it only drops for a second then picks back up, and only when accelerating. Not exactly enough to throw off my odometer. I doubt it's a loose connection since it's weather related... I'll have to look into how the speed sensors are set up on these cars. If it's in the tranny it might have something to do with ATF fluid temp. *shrug*

It will get worst over time, as mine did.

accellerating and uphill too? Check the tranny fluid level.

When my alternator died and I was running the battery down while driving, eventually the speedometer and tachometer quit working as the battery got really low.
