Bad remanufactured alternator?
Bad remanufactured alternator?
I just put in a new remanufactured alternator and finally got my car jumped and started but a odd whirl noise is coming from the area now. When i was putting in the new alternator I did put in a new drive belt as well. The noise happens when I am in park and when im accelerating midly but when i get above 2500rpms it goes away. I dont believe I overtightened the belt there is still give in it at the check point. Would overtightening the idler pulley cause this? that bolt that holds it there. When i put it back together i got the belt wrapped around tightened down the idle pulley bolt then went up top and tightened the adjusting nut. any suggestions? its a very annoying sound and would like to fix it
if you replaced your alternator from the dealer, you should get a new one for free. You have a '97, and just an FYI, there is a recall for '97 and '98 Maximas built from 2/97 to 2/98
that whiring noise happened to me too i think its the new belt. its not squeaking but it should go away in about a week or so. take a volt meter and make sure ur alternator is charging tho. its like a very low whirrrrrr almost like u have a baby supercharger
