Bad remanufactured alternator?

I just put in a new remanufactured alternator and finally got my car jumped and started but a odd whirl noise is coming from the area now. When i was putting in the new alternator I did put in a new drive belt as well. The noise happens when I am in park and when im accelerating midly but when i get above 2500rpms it goes away. I dont believe I overtightened the belt there is still give in it at the check point. Would overtightening the idler pulley cause this? that bolt that holds it there. When i put it back together i got the belt wrapped around tightened down the idle pulley bolt then went up top and tightened the adjusting nut. any suggestions? its a very annoying sound and would like to fix it

a loose and/or tight belt can cause squealing. make sure your belt is taut to within specs.

I would but I got the alternator shipped to my place, my father knows someone who rebuilds them.

Take it to an auto parts store and have them check the alternator...they'll do it for free.

if you replaced your alternator from the dealer, you should get a new one for free. You have a '97, and just an FYI, there is a recall for '97 and '98 Maximas built from 2/97 to 2/98
