97-99 Front Crash Support Bar

97-99 Front Crash Support Bar
I've read that 97-99s do considerably better in front crash tests than 95-96s, which from what I know is due in part to the different crash support bar behind the bumper. Maybe I'm just paranoid about accidents, but I was thinking it might be a practical mod to put this extra support on a 95-96. Now, I'm not talking about the front end conversion (I read through all the threads on that already). I was wondering is there any way to add the newer better support bar to a 95-96 while keeping my existing bumper? Would this make a difference? Or am I completely wrong and the difference in safety is caused by something else? Thanks.

For some reason I was under the impression they changed it again in 1997? I could be wrong.
For me, I'd rather have the car weigh a few more pounds and be a bit safer, but that's just my personal preference.

I didn't know it was changed in 96, but from all the threads I've found (particularly the ones regarding front end conversions found in the FAQs), say that 97-99s have a different support bar. I may have misread/been misinformed though.
