Good intake/exhaust combo.

I recently seen an 01 se around my town, its stock except for intake and exhaust. I dont even think its a full exhaust. But it sounds so nice. Any of you guys have an intake with just a rear section of an aftermarket exhaust?

oh yea... i think 3 years ago i had apexi n1 muffler w/ K&N popcharger..it was too loud and i gave that to my friend and bought magnaflow SS muffler...but it was too quiet so i end up w/ greddy sp2, which is exactly what i wanted.

Stillen did a real nice rear muffler stainless steel extension for the 1996 A32 (4th Gen) SMX Maximas - coupled with an open faced K&N type POD air filter (well, hot air filter without a shield or box...) and they sound mint stock. If you want a decent burble check Stillen out and regardless, chuck a K&N high flow POD filter in so you get that big 'suck' sound before your throttle engages - if you're automatic.

Don't know if you guys get RPS stuff in the US but they make an affordable stainless (or mild? can't remember) rear muffler extension, that doesn't do anything much for power but burbles nicely and gives you a more 'blinged' look with a choice of chromed rear tips.

Any aftermarket cat back + y-pipe will be louder than my taste allows, but that's IMO, so check the sticky on top of the page for different sounding exhaust set-ups to see which you like.

But mate if I'm reading your avatar stats right both of your Maximas have aftemarket exhausts and headers - so what tastes are you saying you have? Good point about the sticky. Cheers.

I hate the way my A32 sounds with the cat-back, that's why I kept the stock catback on my A33B, and it sounds stock .... even with the headers.,

If I could do it over again, I would keep the stock catback on my A32, but keep the y-pipe.

Know what you mean - the 4th gens I've heard can sound either tinny like a Honda (i.e. you sound like you're redlining your engine to move away from the lights) or you have a drone that can leave you deaf after driving for a while.

Personally, there are some very nice sounding 4th gens - Caesar's is definitely one even that 'raspy' resonator note in it...lol.

Quiet like stock but lighter and more power like aftermarket would be fantastic!

I had borla muffler with resonated pressure bent 2.5" ss b pipe on my 98. Sounded extremely nice, i would recomend it to anybody. Drones a little bit on regular driving and more on hills, but thats expected. It wasnt too loud or too quiet, nice DEEP tone, 0 rice, it didnt even backfire.

I have the same setup as Caesar or very close at least. I don't have Cattmans but a New Zealand hi-po tuner version, Caesar says it's the same y and headers as his so he guesses it's the same.

You can listen to this if you want (no it's NOT a thread jack) it's just better to let you listen than say "Mine sounds good".

Windows down entering the motorway/freeway - no drone at normal speeds but 'sounds good' LOL when gas is stomped. But dropped the camera at the end...DOH!

Only driven in the US once (around Venice Beach in LA) and it's real strange driving on the opposite side to what you're used to. Give way rules etc. are effectively reversed and the idea that you pull over to the right to go slower on the freeway...
