Has anyone had any problems with tokicos softening up? Are they not stiff enough? I was going to go with the konis but my stock shock boots are dry rotted and they wont stay on? Can I just get new boots? Any suggestions? I mean the tokicos are a lot cheaper...so i'm confused.

I know there are a lot of posts about comparing the 2, but I need to know about the boots. Please help.

Thanks...Mike

more...hehe

I'm probably going to go with konis, so any suggestions, maybe to buy a set of brand new stock struts or something...

Also, anyone know anything more about the Stillen Adjustable camber plates? Or should I just get the eibach correction bolts for 25 bucks?

Thanks...

I'm responding because you put my name in the Subject line. My own Maxima has a stock suspension. I can't advise you on the merits of the various aftermarket parts.

The only significant mod on Plain Jane is a Courtesy FSTB, and I have that only because it was a gift from a friend. I'm generally satisfied with the vehicle as it comes from the factory.

Even if you get alternative struts, I don't think any of them come with the end boots. Like yours, two of the four of mine are shredded. You can order them from the dealer. Do a search on dust boots and you will probably find the thread detailing cost, etc. Anyway you look at it, if your boots are bad, i think you have to buy new ones at the dealer.

Honestly, I don't like my tokicos at all... my car bounces all over the place. The rebound control on them is truely pathetic... infact they were pretty bad even when new. I wouldn't spend any money on the tokicos. Spend a little more and get the Konis... you will be a LOT happier.

I've had my Tok's for 20k miles now, and have had no problems. But I would suggest spending a little more and getting Konis.

Now people are starting to come out of the woodwork....anyone have any experience with KYBs? Ive heard they last longer than Tokicos yet they are initially stiffer.

thanks guys.....

I searched the posts last night about dust boots, and came to a post about replacing the strut bearings?

Would I need to do that?

The only application that KYB has at this time is GR2, it's a oem replacement, although I heard they work just as well as the toks. Their KYB adjustables are great in most application, but they don't have maxima ones yet. soon they say.

BTW, the tokicos are truely bad... the suspension motion is poorly controlled.

Replace them only if they are bad. If you hear strange grunting sounds as you turn the steering wheel while stationary or moving at low speed you may have bad strut bearings. The "listen with rubber tube" test will help confirm your diagnosis.
