It sounds like I have an air leak in my exhaust. Or is this how it's supposed to sound? I mainly ask because the muffler is quite rusty. But I never saw any noticable holes.

Yes - sounds like a hole in the exhaust system. It could be anywhere *most likely muffler or b-pipe*.
