Anyone else get a very low whining humming sound when you your A/C is on? It disappears when the A/C is shut off. Just wondering if it's normal.

Humming

Mines hum on low speed (level 2). It comes and goes, I think this is normal. Have anyone heard of not to use your AC on level 1 because the cold air pressure can't be released fast enough?

where does the hum come from?

Is it under the passenger-side dash and sound like a cricket on speeds 1 & 2 but disappear at 3 & 4? Several other people have had the same problem and the dealer has replaced part of the A/C under the dash (fan I think).

Does it come from the stereo speakers? If so, there is excess noise getting into the stereo from the electrical system. You should check your power and ground connections. I used to use those $20 noise suppressors from radio shack in my first car (an '87 Escort 4-speed manual). This was before I knew a whole lot... I heard noise... add a noise thingy... add an amp... more noise... second noise suppressor... it worked.
Now my Max has 2 amps(400 & 600 watts), an aftermarket deck, CD changer, and ZERO noise.

No it's not speaker noise because I had that before in my previous Maxima. It's like a whine coming from the engine, I'm just guessing it's the way the compressor sounds, just wondering if it was supposed to be that noticable.

Sorry for bringing this post from the dead, but I want to find out from you or anyone if their AC is still running fine with the compressor "hum". Usually I drive with the music on quite loud so I don't noticed these things, but today I drove with the radio off and heard the strange humming noise. I turned off my AC and the noise went away. I had my compressor replaced with a new one several months ago by the dealer. Is this humming, in fact, "normal"???

mines still has the cricket sound on levels 1 and 2 (ac on and off). i think it's the blower motor rubbing against the housing.

My blower doesn't make any cricket sounds. Just the compressor. I believe there is a TSB fix on the blower motor noise.

I saw the TSB and bought the part. It made the noise a little more quiet but the noise is still there.

Where did you buy "the part" from? I assume you're talking about the blower housing?

it was just a part that covers the blower motor cover. it sort of insulates the motor cover. don't buy it, it's not worth it and won't fix your problem.
