Other car ideas.......
Alright so i realize that i am not thinking straightly right now and i will probally never sell my I30, but i must admit i honestly despise my automatic transmission, and i have been considering getting somthing else here and there, so just gonna throw out a few names and see what you guys think.
-Another I30, or Max, with a manual. (or a swap someday....
)
-An old 300zx, probally a NA one.
-a 90's bimmer 3 series (mabye a cheap M3, but doubt it)
-an old porsche 944
-a 90's audi (not a 1.8t)
-a Prelude?
Any other ideas.
Prefferebly something semi cheap, pretty reliable, upgradeable, and useable in the winter (no rag-tops)
Thanks, and this will probally never happen.......

I'm not sure how old you are, kcryan, but this navel gazing has all the hallmarks of a mid-life crisis, lol! Been there, done that and got the T-shirt.
When was the last time you owned a car with a manual transmission?
When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission?
Let's start with the answers to these questions and we'll go from here.
Also list the approximate annual mileage you drive each of the cars in your fleet and specify the type of use it gets, eg. highway, city, road trips, errands.
I'll try to help you through this difficult time.
In the meantime pour yourself a stiff drink if you haven't already.

Anyway, i have unfortunatly never owned a manual tranny...
but i have driven them here and there...
The I30, the Qx4, the catera, and the c240 see all different types of driving, and anywhere from 10-15k per year. the allante sees all sorts as well, but only 3-5k per year.
Anyway, i think im just a little crazy tonite, and im sure ill read this thread tommorrow morning and wonder who the hell wrote it. my guess is i will just go back to saving for the tranny swap...........

PS So how many miles do you aggregate on an annual basis including the Mercedes, which I believe is a lease car?
If you aren't in the market for a new car, perhaps a 2003 Maxima SE titanium edition, with a 6-speed tranny, would fit the bill.
This might involve disposing of a vehicle from the fleet and I suppose recommending giving the Infiniti the hook would be construed by you to be sacrilege.
Yes the merc is a lease, and a picece of **** as well, dont buy one ever...
i think ill stick where i am for now, but id guess that in the next year there will be another vehicle in the fleet, mabye even an old BMW Bavaria (1972) with 50k and a manual 4 speed that has been sleeping for the last 10 or so years.....

I love the 944's body shape. Never heard of it being a money pit, but figured so since they are up there in age.

Have you got a 72 Bavaria or just know where to find one? A much better BMW of that vintage is a 1973 BMW 3.0 CS, a truly classic car. I had a friend with one years ago and at that time I had a 1973 BMW 2002 tii, a remarkable car.

How old? I would stay away from an N/A Z32 or Z31 unless you don't enjoy "spirited" driving. I love my Z when I drive it, has decent power stock but can run high 13's pretty easily with a few upgrades and it will still handle really well. Z32's are sweet, N/A's are slow as heck though.
-a 90's bimmer 3 series (mabye a cheap M3, but doubt it)
They're not very fast (even M3's) and I'd hate to have to pay for the repair bills.
-an old porsche 944
High repair cost, I don't know about reliability either
-a 90's audi (not a 1.8t)
Slow, I don't know about reliability, I'd rather stick with the I30/Maxima
-a Prelude?
I thought about getting one of these in favor of the maxima, but to find comparible performance you'de have to get the V-tec and people ask waaay too much for them. Even with the V-tec you're going to have a hard time keeping up with the maxima.

This is the route I'd go. I couldn't stand driving my maxima if it was an auto, I know, I had the same year w/ an auto trans. I'd stick with a 5-spd Maxima/I30 because there's so many options now such as the DE-K and 3.5 swap that make it worth while to hold on to it and swap the motor later on for some great reliable power. A DE-K swap will get you in the low 14's and the 3.5 would get you in the mid 13's and either would really liven up your car and give you a nice fresh motor to enjoy

Anyway, i wont say i own it, but ill leave it at i know where one is, and i could get it nice and cheap if i wanted to/ had the $$, but i wouldnt drive it in the winter so i need some extra cash before i think about that.
yea i know the 3.0's are the ones to have, but this thing aint bad, and as i said its cheap cheap cheap.....

Yea every one i see is way overpriced, but i know a guy whos got a 1990, with v-tec(i think, i know its a b-21 engine) that had 150k and barley ran for $500, a 30k engine for 300$ so were swappin them, thats mad cheap i think.
get a eclipse gst, 5sp turbo, there fun but hey they break down alot.. car is crap with reliability
uhm a m3 would be a nice and fun car, but expensive to maintain
the only thing i could think of is a project car for you to build

I use to own the most recent body prelude. All of them have VTEC and it is extremely reliable. BUT.. i don't think people ask too much for them and hate to burst your bubble but a prelude will walk away from a maxima (unless the prelude driver doesn't know how to drive it). Good luck with whatever you do.

Actually, I'd stay away from the z32's. I've got a TT and as much as I love it, it's constantly got problems and it's a pain in the *** and a half to work on (and Im not the only one I've heard this from). Fast, but nothin but problems. Just my 24 cents.
