What are the differences with a Cali emissioned Max

I recently purchased a 97 5 speed SE from California and on the original window sticker in states that it comes with a California emissions. What exactly does this include? Is the ecu tuned differently or is there more emissions equipment on this vehicle?? Also, Im looking to install an aftermarked y-pipe. A fed spec y-pipe should work, right? I was under the assumption that the 99 cali emissioned vehicles need a different y-pipe.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, you need a special Y-pipe. You will not recieve as big of a gain from a Y-pipe because of the CAT that is built into the header.

But from what I understand, only the 99 4th gens have the cat built in, is this not correct?

edit: after reading all the FAQ's I found out that the 97 calispec y-pipe IS the same as the fed spec, only the 99's are different. So how much are you selling your y-pipe for and is it stainless?

I am still curious as to what the differences are between a 97 cali spec and fed spec car are.
