Trans help

When my car is cold my trans does not shift as smooth as when the car is reached its normal temperature. Sometimes I feel that it shifts smother at about 3.5 RPM than at the 2 RPM it has some kind of the kick when it shifts in the morning when the car is cold. Any suggestions? Thank you

You could be low on fluid and/or in need of new fluid.

Try changing to amsoil

I just made the switch 2 days ago and I already am convinced it's the best 40 bucks I have spent on the car yet.
It was hard to downshift before now and notchy when upshifting. 2nd gear was a struggle when tranny was cold and 1st was impossible if the car was not almost completely stopped. now I have much easier shifting when cold and smooth as butter shifting when hot.

My car has done that since the day I got it, and far less lately ... be glad it actually shifts w/o slipping though

Hard shifts when cold are completely normal, don't worry about it. Change your transmission fluid often, fresh fluid keeps transmissions happy.

We are talking about a Maxima here and not a Camry, right?

Holy Crap! How did you get a '96 with only 119k miles for less than a grand? Had it been in an accident?

What a steal. If the car is in good shape he could have easily gotten four times that.

When our old 99 i30 started having intermiten performance problems the shifts felt mushy, These cars shift firmer the better they are running, thats why on a cold morning that 1-2 shift feels so firm. Has anyone else replaced an original fuel filter w/150k on it and felt a HUGE difference in how firm the 1-2nd shift was?

THATS THE SWEATEST DEAL EVER!! WAS HE BLIND AND THOUGHT HE WAS SELLING HIS 1983 FORD LTD FOR $900!!!

Whether it affects your transmission performance or not, change that fuel filter!!! I changed mine recently and after about 70k the fuel came out of the "dirty" end black and full of particulate. After 150k I'd imagine it'd be so much worse. You're robbing yourself of a few miles per gallon and possibly a noticable amount of horsepower because you haven't changed a $10 filter. It takes 20 minutes.
