ecu swap.
Just saying thanks in adavance for any help given.
I plan on changing my 1999 Cali spec maxima over to 5spd. But I was wondering if a 97 5spd ecu will affect anything that my ecu is set up for. I know I will be changing the whole ecu, but i'm just wondering if there are any probelm I might encounter.
I am a good tech. with mechanical issues. It is just the technical electrical side of it I'm stressing over.
Thak you again

well Bill to put it simply your SOL. Having a 99 means your ECU has a totally differnt setup than a 97. You will not be able to just swap ECU's because it will not run
. Now i know alot of people like to talk about swapping pins ect but i know you need to ground like 4 differnt pins and swap a bunch but then i still dont know that it will work right. I personally wouldnt worry about swapping ECU's as i do have a 95 Automatic ECU in my 97 5 spd and it works great. So if you do swap to a 5 spd your car will run just fine but you will throw the CEL for transmission sensors that arent there. U also may have to get a manual TCU not sure though.

zack- i dont think you read right, hes converting his auto over to 5 spd thus wants to know if he can get a new 5 spd ecu to put in there. He already has a Auto ecu as thats what he is now. And if what you say is true about the chip being only for your car than how can anyone else use your JWT ecu?

To original poster: Keep your stock ecu.

Alright. sounds good to me. I do have a programer to make the ecu think those sencors are fine. I like that everyone had the same answer , so it makes me more confident in my decision.
Also to let you know that my car doesn't have TCU or ABS to begin with. So hopefully that won't be a problem for me. Thanks again

Ever think of tuning, since you can control a/f.
You sure it's not just an o2 simulator.

Yeah you are right i didn't read it correctly. He can use an auto ECU for 5speed.I was just trying to say he can only use his specific ECU with his car.
My JWT ecu works because it is a 1996 ECU with pins swapped to run a 1999. My immobalizer doesn't currently work since i am not using my 1999 ECU. My JWT 1996 ECU will run any 1999 5speed maxima.

The system I am referring to is made by OTC. Model number I don't have in front of me at the moment. It plugs in front of your OBD2 port. I am sorry that I didn't know that I was able to use my own. I am looking at purchasing a 5spd swap from a CTmaxima.org member and he had a 97 ecu. with the setup. I will get more info. for everyone about the program I have. Like I said i just got it myself and I am playing around with it. I would hope I can change timing with it .

This will not work.
That's why I told him to keep his stock ecu..........................................
