The various shift_fast versions that some of us have worked on are essentially what this ended up being.

I guess the shift_fast_2 with the RPM control would indeed be the distant relative of this mod here.

Just wonder whatever happened to it, after all Jime bought like $400 worth of equipment to try it out.

The 3rd gear lag is the converter locking up, if you leave the shifter in 4th it won't do that, it only happens when you leave it in 3rd. This only applies to the A33, the A32 does not do that.
actually, I believe you're incorrect about the a32 not doing this. mine does, it's a 98se. for example, when I'm at WOT and press the O/D button on the shifter to turn overdrive OFF while in 3rd gear, the rpms drop a little bit and it holds in 3rd. and if i turn O/D back ON again before the shift point, the rpms jump a little and it shifts into 4th at 6k. and finally there is a very slight but noticable lag if i'm not WOT and use the O/D button to hold 3rd, then press O/D again to allow it to shift into 4th. basically the delay sounds like a slight rise followed by a fall into 4th. i've found this useful when driving spirited. i turn O/D off when launching and when 3rd hits I turn O/D back on giving me that little bump up in rpm. anything to get to the next gear quicker helps
