Still throwing codes...

I recently posted a thread about failing my inspection with the 0705 and 0903 codes. Today I had the vent replaced (and to all those who flamed me for "not reading what i was told" the canister DID NOT have to be replaced). Anyway...about 3 hours after having the vent replaced my CEL again came on again. I cant pull the codes using the diagnostic screw because my sensors will again read "not ready" on my inspection. I want to know what this code is...I imagine that is just the same thing because the didnt reset the ecu. Im about to go pick up a OBDII and read the codes. If I use this...will be codes be reset or can I just leave it "as is" after pulling them.

Pull the code to see what turned the light on this time. Either way, you wount pass inspection with the light on. If everything is repaired and working correctly your ECU should go into a ready state as soon as it's able to go into open loop mode. If it doesn't go into a ready state, it's still detecting errors from time to time during normal running conditions.

So in other words....if i reset it now...and then go for the inspection say tomorrow the sensors would be "ready" considering I fixed the problem. Right?

Here's your answer: If you have a code registered in your ECM, but it has not yet tripped the light, you will fail. Most states are now using the "I/M Readiness Test" which scans the ECM for any codes, pending or tripped. If you reset the MIL lamp (without repairing the problem) and then go for inspection, you will have a "pending code" residing in the ECM and you will fail.

With an decent OBD II scanner, you can read and leave the codes, or clear them from ECM memory. If you have multiple codes, you can selectively clear some and leave others, or just clear them all. Done this way, your ECM will read "ready" when tested; however, as mentioned earlier, if the problem that casused the code is not fixed, the codes will promptly re-appear as pending in the ECM, and will eventually trip the MIL.

You can thank the EPA for building this fail-safe into the OBD II (and newer CAN) systems, it is there to prevent you from fooling the inspectors.............
