Ok, but T-One is in California and I am also from California so maybe it will be $100 over here for us. I will be calling the Costco down the street from my job tomorrow.

*edit*

I just remembered that Costco doesn't quote prices over the phone! So I'm going to have to drive down there tomorrow. Matty did the Costcos you called gave you a price quote over the phone?? Because they are not supposed to.

Well I got the Battery today..everyone check their Part number on your Optima. I beleive the 96 Takes a larger battery.

Optima part # 34R-OR---800CCA 1000CA
$144.99

Im waiting for my mouting bolts and plate to dry, I hit them with some paint...anyway, I got the battery and its the same LARGE size of my old battery...it looks like the stock mounting Rods fit fine.

I had posted on the first page of your post. I had also given you a clue that Sears Price Matched the $109 on-line price. Here is the URL. I had printed this page and taken it to Sears. They gladly PM'd the $109.88 price. So, my price was $106. + 0.75 for Core Tax (Core charge is $10 and tax here is 7.5%). + Tax.

How come there are different part #'s for the 4th gen? The battery that's on my car now is a Toyota one (650cca) that used to be in my truck. I've had it for 2 years and still going.

says who anyhow? a battery is a battery. the only thing you need to watch out for is terminal placement. i have swapped around 5-6 different batterys all different brands and sizes. they all fit and work fine.

Hey its your money. But per the specs, the 75/35-OR I purchased (per the book I needed a 24F battery which I could not locate in Red Top) has 720 Cold Cranking Amps at 0F and 920 Amps at 32F. Your 34R-OR has 800 CCA at 0F and 1000 CCA at 32F. So, if you think the 80 extra CCA are worth it for about 30+ dollars, good for you. I don't live in the North but I have folks in NJ that have the same car and our OEM batteries were similar till mine died when the car was 18 months old and the dealer replaced it with an Interstate battery. That was in 2000.

Me, I like to get stuff at rock bottom prices and I felt that the 75/35-OR at 109 (Price matched to $106) was the best deal in town.

yes nissan has different size batteries, but that does not mean you HAVE to get a certin size. the big o' battery book had 2 sizes for the 4th gen. 300 cca and 5xx cca, both a different group size. the optimas already have more cca's than the original so what ever you pick is already "good enough". i hope you didnt rip hairs out just to find the special size. The optimas that fit are 25, 35, 75/25 (same as 75/35) all of which are the same dimentions and power, but the 75/25 has GM terminals. according to the 5th gen section the 34r wont fit without modifying the positive terminals. the 34/78 and 34 &34R are the same size and power, but the 34/78 has gm posts.

did you already install the battery and it fits? if so that means all optimas fit the 4th gen. you did get a higher cca so i guess you did benefit, wit the bigger one.

...You guys are arguing apples and oranges.

The bottom line is, even the 35 and the 75/35 went for the price of $135.00 in my area...there was no cheap price around my area like you guys are "claiming" you got...lol..When I went to AutoZone, and they types 1996 Nissan Maxima into the Computer, the "Special Order" battery came up...Sooo your telling me I should have told them I have a 99 or a 97 and get a lesser of a battery..lol...What would be the point of that ????? Even after I visited the AutoZone on Sunday of last week, I gave Optima a call on Monday morning to check and make sure that they were giving me the right battery part #. Well Optima themselves told me that the Part number from Autozone and the Battery part Number is 34R-OR....So I should have argued with Optima as well Right ??

Even Jegs.com was a more than you guys got it for..75/35 = $119....Modle 34..$129.00...The only reason I didnt purchase from them was because of shipping, and I wanted to buy from a store around my area because of warentee resons.

You guys can argue all week long...Be my guest

if you are happy with the one you got, excellent. but you asked where to buy them, we told you. then you asked what ones we have/what ones fit we told you. im not arguing im just saying that if there was a battery on the shelf that fit your car you should have gotten it. its good that you bought the 34 size, because now future buyers they dont need to search like crazy for an optima that fits. now that i thinkg about it, the larger one locally was around the same price you paid so you didnt get screwed.

Nobody is arguing. You asked for information from folks and prices etc. Once you got the information, you did whatever you wanted to anyways. So, why post asking for information if you did not want to follow any of it. If you wanted to rely on Autozone and Optima's computers, you didn't need to post here now did you? The information they gave you did not change due to the posts here. All I was trying to point out is had you followed some of the advise here, you might could have save some money. Its good to see that you like your battery.

BTW. The 75/35 (which I have) has BOTH the side and the top terminals. The side ones are covered.

don't you have a sound system in the max?
if you have one you should know that optimas are very good.
i used to have one and every time the bass hits nothing happens, know that i
have a DIE HARD looks like the car is going to turn off, all the lights lose brightness and the rpm needle goes to 5k.
and besides they last much longer than normal batteries

my suggest is: dont listen this just GO FOR THE TOP YELLOW!!

Oddly, my Optima redtop from last winter looks different than yours does. and for mine I had to put the spacer under it so that the +/- would reach. Maybe I got the wrong size, but the AutoZone system said for the maxima it was that one or another one that was weaker....also I paid 85 darrah w/o core.

I know this is an old thread, but I need to replace my battery and Im going with a red top. I called Optima and they recommended the same mod number you posted. I have a 97 and my OEM battery is shot. Matt did you have any problems with height or connecting the stock battery terminals to the red top? I read about needing longer J hooks, can you confirm?

Looking into the Duralast gold tops from Autozone. I got one and it powers the system nicely.

Do a quick internet search. I found the top rated batteries from Costco, Auzone, and walmart were like 1, 2, & 3. Think optima was like number 5 or something.

Besides its all about Cold Cranking Amps. jus get a battery with a high number like 750 or more and u good.

Autozone is where I checked for the red top, they have it stock. Im going to see the specs on the duralast gold and compare price, cca, and reserve power etc. I have a high power sub and 2 Tru Billet 2100 amps. So I need something with good reserve power for my system as well.

Optima red top

So I purchased the Optima battery mainly for the color scheme . 100 reserve is more than enough for me. I notice the car starts more powerfully than before. I thought that my dimming lights would go away when the Sub hits hard but I guess not. They don't dim as much as before but the dimming is still there. The fitment was a dream, the battery came with a mounting adaptor to raise its height to the stock battery. I was able to mount the holding bracket with out any problems.
