Remote lock lights
Remote lock lights
Hey guys, yesterday I went to lock my doors on my car from a distance and the lights didnt blink. I also have the piezo siren mod and I never heard it. So I went near the car to check to see if it may have been my remote battery but my doors unlock and lock like usual. My blinkers still work so I think it has something to do with the door lock relay in the trunk. Anybody run across this before?
Thanks,
Eric Lucas

What you found is called "range limit". All remotes have a distance beyond which they fail to communicate with the car. This distance can change due to interferance, radio towers, etc.; which will cause the range limit to be shorter in some locations and longer in others. I have a Lowes store near me and when I park there the remote will only work from a few feet away. Park somehwhere else and the remote will work from over 200 feet.........
no...sorry i didnt better explain my situation but the lights do not light even when the doors lock from a close distance. the doors actually lock still from a long distance away but the lights still do not blink like they once did.
Check your sensored openings (doors, hood, trunk). I had a prob once where one of my kids locked the seat belt in the door and it did not close 100%. Doors still locked but no blink or alarm confirmation. Other possibilities would be:
- bad sensor on opening
- blown alarm fuse
- disconnected or damaged cable to alarm (rt side of trunk)

The relay for the BCM to activate the lights is in the trunk by the latch, as you know if you did the alarm beep mod. When you press the lock button you should be able to hear the relay switching each time the lights flash. If you cannot hear it, the relay may have gone bad.
If you can here it, check the fuse for the power to the relay that is used to power the lights when the relay switches. If this fuse is blown, the doors will still lock & the lights will work normally, (hazards & blinkers), but there will not be any power to flash the lights & the piezo when you lock the doors.

I had this same exact problem when I tried to do the beeper mod. I apparently didn't read the instructions very carefully and didn't realize that you NEED to remove the fuse for the BCM in the fuse panel while you hook up the beeper, then replace it when you're done. I found out that I blew the BCM fuse and all I needed to do was replace it. I think it's like a 10A or 15A fuse. Lights work no problem now, but they didn't before even though the doors still locked no problem.
Good luck.
Good luck.
