Overdrive light on.

I was doing normal driving in the the city and all of of sudden my OD OFF light comes on my 95 maxima se automatic. I check to make sure the switch on the gearshift is set to the ON postion and it is. I turn my head lights ON and the light goes OFF. I was on the expesssway this morning and and turned my headlights OFF the light OD off light comes on and the max comes out of Overdrive, I turn my headlights back ON and it goes back into Overdrive. Please help me anybody please. I also checked the trans fluid everything is normal.

pull ur gauge cluster out and make sure all the wires are tight and secure..its easy to take out...there are 4 screws for the trim piece....antoher 4 for the cluster itself a few plugs behind it

I think MY O/D is stuck on too, when I turn the car on the O/D OFF light turns on for 2 seconds then turns off (it never used to do that before because I rarely ever used O/D off I just started because we got snowed), and the car feels like it's running without O/D sometimes I solve it by stopping the car and turning the O/D switch on and off repetively (about 5 times).

well my O/D function doesn't work at all. the light blinks on start up but the button and function doesn't work. its mainly due to loosing wiring in the shift **** prob.

can you somehow fix it, or do u have to get a whole new shift ****????

I think I read somewhere in the owner's manual that the actual overdrive doesn't work until you hit 40mph, so with the light on or off, it doesn't work until then.

just wire it up to a new switch some where..........OD also doesnt engage until the car is at proper operating temp...

well the closest actual switch i have is beside the dimmer switch and i really don't wanna do all the wiring and stuff. plus it would be kinda gay to have another switch for something i hardly use. i just wanna get it fixed before i possibly sell it. i guess i can check for loose wiring tomm...

For an update it is definetly a loose wire somwhere, starting it up yesterday after work it was operating nomally until it warmed up then the OD off light came ON. I played with the switch on the shift **** for a little bit it still stayed on. I turned my headlights ON then the light went OFF. I have not had a chance to take apart my instrument cluster yet I want to plan at least 3 hours in my day for that. I will just drive around with my headlights on for a couple of days no biggy. 95 SE
