Need Starter Help

I installed a new starter and now the car will not start. It's not the ignition switch because I already purchased a new one and installed it, the battery is fine and I even tried to jump the car. Does anyone else have any ideas what it might be. How many connections go to the starter? Thanks for any help in advance.

I connected the plug to the positive of the battery and the wire that bolts onto the solenoid but I can't find out where a think black wire goes to. Anyone know?

Perhaps your starter is bad out of the box - did you get it bench tested at Autzone (or the like?).

Yeah it's brand new I just returned the one I had before because it was bad and had the new one tested. I looked in my engine bay near the starter and there is a thin black wire with a rectangular connector on the end that is screwed to the body of the car, the connector has one long line with three dots below it.

there is a black plug it dangles and manages to get itself lost when your installing back a new starter Look around for dangling or lose cables.

Did you reconnect everything properly?

Its possible to have gotten a bad starter out of the box. It happened to me, not too long ago.

if you put a new ignition switch in it is possible you could have blown that fuse..?? somebody with more experience may go against me but its right under the engine bay-worth a try because i know when a shop found my alarm to be shorting out my ignition a month ago they replaced that fuse..

Either it's the ground or it's the actual turn on (start) lead from your ignition switch that you forgot to connect. Aside from power, (and ground of course) you need a turn on signal for the solenoid to activate.
