1999 SE-Limited issues?
1999 SE-Limited issues?
I am currently in the market for a 99 SE-L 5 speed maxima. If I recall correctly, there were some issues/problems that pertained particularly to the 99's. The vehicle I have found (and may possibly buy) is a federal U.S. spec 5 spd. 99 SE-L. Were there any emissions issues or anything else I should look out for upon this purchase? By the way, it's a lovely color called crimson blaze. =)

for 99's, you should look out for their faulty coil packs. The car also has less power than the rest of the 4th gens, because it has more emissions related equipment, and it's also heavier. Crimson Blaze is an awesome color.

If anything you will make more power once you start doing mods.
My car makes
201whp with just
Popcharger
Y-pipe
Exhaust
MEVI
UDP
Ground Wires
And stock ECU

What are the symptoms of a bad coil pack? I just bought a 99 SE 5spd about a year ago. Now the CEL is on and it quits randomly when I am coming to a stop with my foot on the brake and clutch. I thought it was probably the IAC since it has about 110k miles on it? would bad coils cause this? were there any recalls for the coils?

So we're turing this into one of those threads...
Just had 2 CP's go bad on a friends 99 this past weekend. 74k.

let me correct myself. i've driven a few 99's and they FELT to be slower than my '98. That could be for a variety of reasons. I thought that more emissions equipment meant less power, due to more restriction. If you have a 99 and it makes more than 200whp, great, you proved me wrong.

I had to replace all the coil packs on my 99 just as it hit 100,000 miles. No big deal, really, all else seems perfect - a very reliable car. Your lucky if you get a fed spec. You wount have the restrictive swish valve intake manifold and related emissions controls. That also gives you the option of a better Y pipe for your 99 which is the best bang for the buck power maker for our cars. The Crimison Blaze color only available on 99 SE-L's plus the fact that it's a 5 speed fed spec make that a very rare car.
Good luck with your purchase.

because I've never heard of any unusual year specific problems with th 97...And of course the thread hijack95/6 starter

Engine knock: Spark knock or ping may result from a defective onboard computer. (1995-97)
Rough idle: Several problems (no-start, no A/C, rough running, etc.) can be traced to broken wires in the engine compartment where the harness bends near the right strut tower. (1995-97)
Rough idle: Rough running engine accompanied by check engine light may require revised powertrain control module. (1997)

I dont know, I'm looking at getting either a 97 or 98 black SE. Of course I have to thread hijack. As a noob I how would I reply to to these topics seeing as I obviously know less than you guys. If I can't contribute anything new/valid I won't post and essentially won't be able to make a thread.

congrats on joining the SE-L club. Since I've had mine, aside from maintenance I've replaced the rear 3 coils (got used 97 coils cheap), and just replaced the rear calipers (driver side froze w/winter, known prob for 4th gens).
My cali spec screams w/the mods I have, no complaints, 130k. The SE-L steering wheel rules over the gxe version.

My Cali-spec SEL runs just as great as the Fed spec. She is 5 speed with black leather. Everyone thinks I painted it red even the guys at the dealer. One guy when as far as checking the paint code.
