How often do you clean your throttle body?

I cleaned mine 6 months ago and I have not checked it since. It is easy enough to do.

So, how often do you clean your throttle body?

I just cleaned mine for the first time the other week, at 80k miles. Didn't notice a difference, though I do expect some marginal improvement when I do it on my VG w/ 210k.

i dont want to ruin the thread but after i cleaned my TB and started my car, I heard a weird nosie......when i turned the ignition i heard a high pitch screech....does any1 kno what would have caused this?

There's a section on it motorvate.ca mate - step by steps to help you out.

Going to clean it this weekend - first time for me. 1996 SE with about 140k miles and a 1996 SMX with 110k miles. Hopefully see some benefits.

Will carb and choke cleaner work or is there some special throttle body cleaner? Stupid question I know.

Mine came with a soil sensor, and it text messages me when it gets dirty.

if you have an intake just clean it when you reoil the filter.

if you're stock get an intake

^^^ yea cuz an intake is gonna make all the difference in the world.

Would windex work in cleaning it? or dish liquid?

No, windex or dish liquid is a bad idea. you'll never be able to get all of the residue out and it may possibly damage your engine is the intake sucks up water and soap.

when i cleaned my TB i used 3M throttle plate cleaner. i believe you can use carb/choke cleaner too. they don't leave any residue, evaporate quickly and burn up in the cylinders with the fuel-air mixture without adverse effects
