to those who have taken out the clock/vent assembly

After installling a stereo in my car, the clock/vent piece never sat perfectly flush. I have a few milimeters of space between the main panel and the vent/clock piece. When putting the assembly back in, i have simply pushed it straight in and it locks into place. Is there a specific way to get it back in to eliminate the gap? It seems that Since I devirginized the factory seal that i may have the gap forever, if thats the case, its no big deal, but is there a way to eliminate it? Thanks

On the bottom of the piece there are 2 tabs that lock into the frame of the dash, check those and see if they are bent inward. I had to rebend mine back out so that the tabs would lock back into the hole.

tabs on the bottom are messed up, youll have to pull the whole thing out and try again.

i just ignore my gap, it was too much of a pita to get it out the first time

It most def. your tabs, be careful with the AC vents while you are in there.

It's a PITA because it is all thin plastic and that can be nerveracking.

agreed. i hate messing around with my dash more than i have to. removing that panel by the driver's knees once for a gauge bezel install was bad enough, but then again for gauge rings!?!? let's just say it's seen better days. those clips are indeed a PITA

EDIT: and yes, i removed my clock assembly and it does stick out just a mm or two.
