rear window droping?

well today, on the way to work, i parkd in the parkin lot, and opend my rear driver side door, to get out my jacket, then i closed the door when i closed it out of no where my window DROPS! (and i mean drops). so i try to put it up i hear the motor moving, but the window is not. (u can even move the window up and down wit ur hand). i know it prolly went of track> but my question, is it that commmon, or whats the reason that it does that?????

p.s. i used the same window 30min, before i went to work and i worked perfectly?

thanks in advance...

You probably need a new window regulator.

the exact same thing happened to me...a friend of mine got out and shut the door and it just dropped..my cable is off the tracks...i cant get the cable back on either because i need about half and inch more of slack...so...a nice pair of vicegrips are in my door holding the window up to try again another day
