buying a 95 with bad motor need a dek maybe
I was wondering how much diffrance is their in the vq30de and the vq30dek.
i got to buy a motor to put back in it and if its not too much trouble to put the dek in it I would just try that. OK whats the diffrance in the two motors I know the intakes are diffrant . Where does it get the extra 32 hp from. How much trouble is it to get it to go in and what tranny is it compatable with?

well the DEK is basically a DE, except it has a variable intake, if you were to get one, (assuming all hardware included) you would need a RPM controlled window switch to open the butterfly valves in the intake at a set rpm. Benefit of this is there isnt a power drop off at ~5000 rpm like the DE has. Only modification it requires (besides VI stuff) is resoldering the injector harnesses, it fits all transmissions the DE fits, and is a direct drop in.

And does the dek do well with boost

Most of the gains are from the 00VI, the DE-K is said to have different cams but not enough to have a noticeable gain, everyone has agreeed the extra HP is from the VI...
Most of the boosted folk <3 the DE-K for boost...
Uses the same ECU the 4th gen does.

The dek picks up where the de starts losing power around 5000rpm. I would check check the dyno slips forum to see where the motors make the most power, there are plenty of charts in there.
