Spring Rate Question

I'm following the thread on D2 coilovers in the Group Buys Section, and there's a reference to spring rates, and the rates are described as 8/6?
What do the numbers mean?
I'm old school. I've always referred to spring rates based in pounds per inch, as in a 500 lb/in.

lbf/in coverted to kg/mm:
500 x 0.0179 = 8.95

kg/mm converted to lbf/in:
8 / 0.0179 = 447
