I am almost ready to buy 7000k Helios HID's. Has anyone successfully installed this and taken pics to see the results. What are your thoughts? Please comment and thanks in advance..

I dont ahve them, but many have claimed to get a horrible scattered output by using a reflective housing with HID's.
I do know that anything over 5k is a waste and will actually make visibilty worse.

7000K hid mind as well drive with your lights off u won't see diddly squat. Anything over 4300k or maybe even 5000k is garbage. Basically the higher the kelvin the lower the output. So with a 7000k u will get a very blue lighing output, u'll get pulled over in seconds and blind uncoming traffic

I got the 9000k on my 98. They are great. The light out put is great. I can see things on the road that I never could before. Just make sure to reaim them. I blinded people badly at first and got high beamd by the federales...Great investment. I think, but hey I'm just one of many maxima owners...

Because they like the color output from them.
4100k-4300k is said to have the best "white" output.
5000k would be the limit witout going too much into a blue color.

Your better off going with a projector setup, here are some links to some HID threads...

Projector retros have the best controlled output with a nice color, depending on which projector you use.

maxgtr2000 is actually doing retros for members at a really good price, he is currently working on a set for me.

If you get HIDs and don't go with projectors, atleast pick up a set of 97+ headlights.

i'm on 5k HID's right now. Some no-name brand from my friend. It is brigher then any normal bulb out there. Yes i do have a good amount of glare coming from my headlights but i aimed them lower about 2-3 inchs from 25 feet again the wall. As of right now, no problems with them. I wonder how they are in the bad weather tho. Good thing is i have a set of driving lights, just in case the HID's look crappy in bad weather i'll just turn them off and drive with my driving lights which are just as bright as stock halogens

The S2000's have the best color output. If your ever able to grab some for a good price , DO IT!
Ive seen them go for around 300.00 for the pair. No Bulbs, No Ballasts.
My projectors should be done in a week or so, too bad my car wont be availble to put them in.

i have 6k HID kit on my 95 maxima w/ stock headlight. the beam pattern sux a lot with 95 headlight assembly and 9004 bulbs. but it definetly lights up the road a lot better, it's just not focus.

i should have the 6k HID kit on my gf's 06 Scion tc by the end of this week. i'm expecting the same thing maybe a little bit better due to newer model headlight and 9006 bulbs.

IMO HIDs are mostly for show. if people drive regularly and carefully, HIDs aren't necessary.

here's my old sig with my 6k HID kit vs 06' g35c stock xenon vs 06' s2000 stock 5k HID. even though mine is brighter than theirs, but beam pattern sux.

There not just for show if there pired up with projectors.
The light out of the 9004 is horrible. 9007 is somewhat better but hids with retros is the best way to go.

Why would the glare be bad if the application is using reflective housings with D2R bulbs....I thought D2R bulbs were produced for reflective housings

Just the same, reflective housings that use D2R's from the factory have other things about them that are different from your typical halogen reflectors...such as glare shields.

It's really not as simple as sticking in a D2R bulb.

no personal expericene with these kits however I have seen them in person on a 02 max...IMO they are nastayyy looking blue..

I say if your gona do it, then do it right with a projector retrofit....worth every penny

heres basically what you need to track down

1. a set of 97-99 headlights/or cefiros
2. 2 ballasts, 2 ignitors
3. 2 D2S bulbs
4. projector housings

I just installed my helios 7k kit. Overal i'm happy with it. I didn't wanna spend a whole lot doing a retro fit with projectors, but i still wanted improved lighting. I'm pretty satisfied with it, although all this talk makes me regret not saving the extra dough and going projector. Here are some pics of the install and color.

I know this is a dumb question, but am i right to say that i cannot just add projectors to my existing setup? I've been reading all i can, about e46 kits and such but was just wondering if this was possible.

HIDs and stock housings produce a lot of glare since obviously they were made for halogen applications and the light is sprayed all over the road. my xtec 6k kit puts a good amount of light on the ground, beam pattern isnt all that great, but it gets the job done pretty well. my bulbs do have a shield but the amount of glare is still pretty high. i did run 7k for half a year and i have to say that visibility is a lot better with the 6k's. to reduce the amounts of highbeams youre gonna get from other drivers, i would highly recommend aiming your headlights lower.

once you go HID you dont go back. (save that you get the right K)

i just put my 6k HID kit a couple days ago, and i can see soo much clearer now. before, if a car was driving behind me, i would cast a shadow in front of my car w/ my headlights being on. now i can see clearly. although i have gotten highbeamed around once a night since i got them put in. how do i reaim my headlights lower? can anybody tell me how to aim the headlights?
i will get projectors, but its one step at a time

I understand how you feel. I want to get the Bi-xenon 6000k HID's from the group deal, but I fear they won't be what I want for the money. I have the 97-99 headlights on my 96, but I worry about the problems of trying to control the light output in 4th Gen housings. I'm waiting for a night shot from someone in a photo or video to prove to me that it won't be a problem before I order. Here's a photo. At least upgrade to the newer lights. The diffused 95-96 headlights are terrible.

Is 97-99 direct bolt on to 95/96 or any modification required? Ones i do get the 97-99 headlamp on, i will need to get H4 adapter, correct?

No, they still use 9004 bulbs just like the 95-96.

No modification required on mine.

The 97-99 lights are the same as the 95-96';s but they have a plastic clear lens versus the glass lenes that the 95-96's use.

The highest color temp I recommend is 6000K. HIDs suck in inclement weather period, but high K HIDs are even worse.

You realize this statement makes no sense. Have you ever been in front of a car with factory HID lights? It can be dark and raining and if one comes up behind me, especially a lexus with the yellow HID foglights, i can turn my lights off and still see fine.

Now i will agree that the higher the kelvin you go the less output of light you get but that is obvious if you think about it, but to say that they suck in bad whether is a ridiculous statement

PEACE

If you answer is based off of watching HIDs in SOMEONE ELSE's car then you can't give a rational answer. HIDs do suck in inclement weather. They reflect back into your eyes. The yellow fog lights of the Lexus are good because yellow doesn't reflect back at you as much as HIDs would. In some instance halogens might be better for rain/fog than HIDs. I know I have them. The higher K temp HID suck period in terms of light output in good weather so in bad weather they're pretty much pointless. Ask people who will be honest about driving in the rain with 8000K+ HIDs an see how good they're visibility is.
